SHIRT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,042, dated March 10, 1891.

Application filed December 16, l 890. Serial No. 374,905. (No model.)

- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAM L. HYMAN, a citizen of the Uliited States, residing at Nashville, in the QOIID'EY of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in shirts; and it consists of features of novelty hereinafter described and claimed.

In order that my invention may be fully understood,Iwill proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in -Which-1' Figure I is a front view of my improved shirt. Fig. 11 is aback view thereof. Fig. III is a pattern for the combined re-enforced yoke shoulder-piece and facing thereof.

1 is the front, 2 the back, 3 the sleeves, 4 the bosom, and 5 the neckband, of my improved shirt.

6 is the facing having an upper portion 6, a lower portion 6 and a strip 6, extending beneath the arm to the back, providing an armhole 6 and formed in one piece with the yoke 7 and shoulder-piece 8, made right and left, according to the location of this part. The yoke 7 extends over the shoulder at 7 and meets the upper portion of the facing and bosom. Secured at one end to the lower edge of the yoke adjacent to the back opening of the shirt, and to the lower edge of the neckband is a piece of tape forming a loop 9, through which is passed the band of the necktie or scarf to hold the latter down at this point.

10 are pieces of tape secured to the facings transversely and at the middle portion of the latter, providing loops through which the suspenders may be passed to make the bosom lie flat. The bosom is formed with a plait 11 on one side of the stud-holes 12.

My combined re enforce facing and yoke can be employed on any kind of shirt, woolen, cot-ton, linen, or open-back or open-front shirts, &c.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A shirt constructed with a bosom, a facing extending alongside the bosom and re-enforcing the shirt-body between the bosom and armhole, a strip extending from the facing beneath and around the armhole to the yoke, the yoke connecting said strip and the facing, said facing-strip and yoke being made integral, as set forth.
