v ALBERT E. OONVERS, iOF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
NECKSCARF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,404, dated August 24, 1880.
Application filed April 30, 1880. (No model.)
To altwhom t't may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT E. GoNVERs, of Taunton, of the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bosom-Scarfs; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a front view, Fig. 2 a back view, and Fig. 3 a vertical and transverse section, of an article containing my invention.
The article or bosom-scarf, as it is usually termed in trade, generally has for supporting it from the neck of a person a strap to go around the band of the collar of the shirt. When a turn-down collar separate from the shirt neck-band is used it becomes a diflicult matter not only to get the strap around the neck and under the fold of the collar, but to slip the strap around so as to cause the scarf to be adjusted to its proper position on the shirt-bosom, and, besides, while in wear the strap of the scarf is liable to get or work up between the collar and neckband and into contact with the flesh or neck of the wearer, much to his inconvenience, all of which is avoided by my improvement, in the carrying out of which I fix at its opposite ends to the upper part of the rear side of the scarf or gorget A a flexile plate, B, which I usually provide at its upper part with a notch or stud or buttonreceiving recess, a, and I extend up between the said plate B and the scarf A a strap, 0, the lower end of which I generally fasten to the scarf, although this is not necessary.
To the upper end of the scarf I affix a loop or suitable button-catch, D, or in the place thereof I make in the strap, near its upper end, a button-hole. The said button-catch D, I usually fix to the strap by a piece of elastic webbing, E, attached to the two and intervening between them. Furthermore, there is projected from the plate B at its lower edge a metallic point or spur, Gr.
To apply the bosom-scarf so made to the neck and shirt-bosom of an individual it is in no respect necessary to convey the strap around his neck, but simply to hitch the button-catch upon the collar-front button or stud, and next to slide the scarf upward on the strap, so as to cause the scarf at its upper part to pass under the turned-down flaps or portions of the collar and cover the collar-button. This having been done, the strap is to be hitched upon the point or spur, by which it will be held in place; or illstead thereof the strap may be pinned to the scarf.
What I claim as myinvention is as follows, VlZ
1. The bosom-scarf A, provided with the strap 0 and its button-catch D, and a plate, B, arranged and applied to the back of such scarf, substantially as set forth.
2. The scarf- A, provided with the strap 0 and its button-catch D and plate B, and afastening spur or pin, G, extending from such plate, all arranged substantially as shown and described.
3. The scarf A, provided with the strap 0, the button-catch D, and their elastic connection E, and also with the plate B, all arranged and adapted to operate substantially as specified.
4. The scarf A, provided with the strap G, the button-catch D, and their elastic connection E, and also with the plateB and the fastening stud or point Gr,- extending from such plate, all arranged and applied substantially as set forth.
