NECKTIE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 44:9,775, dated April '7, 1891.

Be it known that I, CHARLES GOLDTH AIT, of Veymoutlnin the county of Norfolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which thefollowing is adescription sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing my improved necktie in use; Fig. 2, a perspective View showing means for fastening the strap; Fig. 3, a sectional elevation showing the inner face of the tie; Fig. 4, a perspective View of the tube, and Fig. 5 an elevation of the wedge.

Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.

My invention relates especially to a combination strap and bow tie, which is particularly designed for use with standing collars; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character than is now in ordinary use.

The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation.

In the drawings, A represents the bow, which is constructed as follows: A strap is folded to form loops 1) and passed in front of and through a flattened metallic tube B, the ends of the strap beingiewed together within said loop. A center piece (1 covers the tube and passes across the centmfthe bow in the ordinary manner of tie's'of this description,

the ends of said piece being sewed together at h, as shown in Fig. 3. The ends at p of the strap may be disposed in any suitable manner under the garments, as shown in Fig. 1, and the device as thus constructed presents the general appearance of a bow tied in the neck-strap in the ordinary manner.

Having thus explained my invention, whatl claim is In a necktie, a tubula r inetallic body, in combination with a straplooped to form a central bow and secured to sfiidbody, a neck-strap having one end secured to said body, and an adj usting-wedge, as D, fitted to enter said body and provided with a head or button, substantially as described.
