(No Model) D. SOHLESINGER.
NEOKSGARF.
No. 326,251. Patented Sept. 15, 1885.
N PETERS PhaXpLilhngvaphar. Washington. D C,
'NITED STATES DAVID SOHLESINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKSCARF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,251, dated September 15, 1885.
Application filed April 4, 1885. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID SoHLnsINoER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scarfs for Neck-Wear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved scarf for neck-wear, in which the usual shield is dispensed with, and which can be worn in an easy and reliable manner in connection with standing collars without the use of pins or other fastening devices; and the invention consists of a scarf for neck-w ear provided with an elastic neckband and devices for retaining and fastening the neckband to the scarf.
The invention consists, secondly, of a scarf having standing extension-bands at the upper part of the scarf to the body of the scarf, to which the ends of the neckband are applied.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation, Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my improved scarf for neck-wear, and Fig. 3 is a detailhorizontal section of the same on line :0 as, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A, in the drawings, represents a scarf for neck-wear, which is made of any suitable material, and without a shield. The scarf A is provided at its upper edge with extensionbands B B, that meet at the center in front, and have rounded upper corners, and which form with the body of the scarf an angle that corresponds to the angle formed between the standing collar and bosom. The scarf is intended to be worn with a standing collar, the extension-bands B B imparting a very ornamental appearance thereto.
To the outer ends of the extension-band B B is applied an elastic neckband, 0, one end of which is attached permanently to one extension-band, B, while the other end is applied detachably thereto by means of an eyelet, a, and spring-clasp b, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or by any other suit-able fastening device. The elastic neckband O is preferably made of a number of interior elastic strips, (1, and a covering, 0, of suitable fabric having longitudinal lines of stitching between said strips. The color corresponds preferably to The covering 0 is made of that of the scarf.
somewhat greater length than the interior elastic strips, (1, of the neckband, so that the same gathers up the covering when constructed as shown in Fig. 2. Z
By means of the elastic neckband O the scarf is firmly retained on the standing collar without causing the rising up of the neckband on the collar. l
The scarf is quickly and conveniently placed in position or removed by attaching or detaching the end of the neckband from the extension-band B by means of the fastening device a b.
The same construction may also bensed with bows, in which the extension-bands take the place of the shield used heretofore.
Having thus described my invention, claim as new and desire to secure by Let Patent- 1. A scarf provided along its upper edge with two upwardlyextending bands whose inner ends meet at the center of said scarf, substantially as described.
2. A scarf provided along its upper edge with two upwardly extending bands whose inner ends meet at the center of said scarf, the upper corners of said meeting ends being rounded, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a scarf provided along its upper edge with two upwardly extending bands whose inner ends meet at the center of said scarf, of a neckband secured at one end to one of said bands, and having its free end provided with means for detachably connecting it with the other of said bands, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with a scarf provided along its upper edge with two upwardly-extending bands whose inner ends meet at the center of said scarf, of a neckband secured at one end to one of said bands, and having its free end provided with means for detachably connecting it with the other of said bands, said neckband being elastic, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID SOHLESINGER.
