Patented July 13, 1909.
Applicationled March 21,' 1907. Serial No. 363,569.
To all whom it may concern.' i
`Be it known that l, WILLIAM A. KEYS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful l1nproveniente in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
l`his invention has relation to neck wear and consists in the novel construction of neck wear whereby the tie or knot -Inade by the tying of the free ends of the neck-tie may be fixed on the vcollar so as to prevent lateral or vertical. motion and so as to remove any strain or tension on the same...
ln the rawings forming part of this speci ication Figure l shows the reverse or inner side of my improved tie with the tabs made of one piece of material and inserted between the layers of material of which the tie is made. Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is the saine as Fig..
l with the tabs xedly secured to the tie. Eig. t is a longitudinal section of Fig. 3.
ln the drawings similar letters refer to similar parts.
At represents the inner face or wrong side of the neck-tie which has placed in it slits or button holes A, A', lwhich may be linished in buttonhole stitch, as shown, or otherwise. Between the two layers of material of which the tie is made is laced a strip of suitable material B of sufficient length to' project out at each end of the neck band portion of the tie through. the holes n', A and which material is folded or stitched. so as to forni tabs B, B', having button holes C G made therein, whereby the said tie may be attached to the front collar button of the wearer. rlhe lining or strip of material out of which the tabs are inade may be xedly secured within the neclntie either by means of the button hole in the rear of the tie alf lowing the neck: band of the tie to he fixed. tothe rear collar button of the wearer or may be sewed into the tie by means of a row of stitching D D or be merely placed in the tie without afiixing it there.
The operation of attaching my improved tie is to pass the neck hand o i the tie around; the collar, attach the tabs ll', ld to the freni; collar button by means of the button holes C C and thc-ifi to tie the ends of the tie into a bow or knot.
My invention is applicable to any form ofy tie, either to the form of tie shown in the to a four-in-hand, or to'an ascot or any of` the other Various forms of ties, but for convenience l have merely shown it in the form' appearing inthe drawings.
Having thus described. in'y invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,--
l.A As an article of manufacture, a neck-tie having inner and outer surfaces Vconsisting of a neck band and two end portions, a strip of suitable material adapted to` form a lining inserted between the inner and outer surface of the neck-tie and passing through button holes in the inner side of the neck band at points adjacent to the front collar button and adapted to form non-elastic tabs for attaching the tie to the front collar button, substantially as set forth. V
,2. As an article of manufacture, a neck-tie having inner and outer surfaces consisting of a neck band and two end portions, a strip of suitable'material adapted to form a lining inserted between the inner and outer sur'- face of the neck band and passing through openings at'the inner side of the neck band at points adjacent to the front collar button and adapted to form non-elastic tabs for attaching lthe tie to the front collar button, said strip being fastened by suitable means to the said tie, substantially as set forth.
3. As an article of manufacture, a necktie having inner and outer surfaces consisting of a neck band and two end portions, a strip of suitable material inserted between the outer and inner surface of the neck band and passing thioughtheopenings in the inner side of the neck band at points adjacent to the front collar button and adapted to form tabs for attaching the tie to the front collar button, said strin being secured to the neck band of the tie by means of a button hole adapted to tover the rear collar button of the wearer, substantially as set forth.
4. is an article of manufacture, a neck-tie consisting of a neck band and two end portions having 'flat non-elastic tabs adjacent to the front collar button, said tabs fastened in a hole in the neck band at points adjacent to the collar button ofthe wearer, substantially as set forth.
5. As an article of manufacture, a neck-tie consisting of a neck band and two end portions, said tie having flat non-elastic tabs projecting 'through openings and secured thereto inthe inner side of the tie at points* adjacent to the front collar button of the wearer, substantiall as set forth.
6.l In an article o manufacture, a neck-tie said openings, said tahs being adapted to he 10 secured' to the front collar button.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribm witnesses. l ILLIAM A. KEYS. e Witnesses:
