To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES WADE TUDOR DAVIES, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York city, county of New York, and State of New "York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to necktie retainers.

The object of my invention is the provision of means carried by the depending portion of the necktie for enga ing the front' of the shirt to hold the nec tie down pro erly in front, thereby obviating the use of tlie separate clasp commonly em loyed for securing" the hanging or tying en s of the necktie to the front shirt placket or plait.

The present invention, which rovides a retainer carried by the necktie an sold with it, can be carried out in several difierent ways, among which are the-provision of one or more tabs, loops, hooks, rin s, eyelets, or

other retaining devices, either e astic or nonelastic and of metal, flexible goods, or otherwise, secured to the necktie and engageable with the front shirt stud or theshirt itself.

The invention is adaptable to all neckties having parts which lie over the shirt bosom, whether made neckties, or suchasare intended to be tied by the user. i

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view showing the manner of use of one embodiment of the invention, parts of thenecktie being broken away; Fig. 2, a view of the necktie of Fig. 1 before tying; Fig. 3, a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 2, showin manner of tying the ends of the loop to hold the latter to the necktie; Fig. 4, a detail view illustrating how the ends of the loop may be stitched to the necktie and the knots dispensed with; Fig. 5, a detail view showing how metal hooks can be used as a substitute for the loops; Fig. 6, a detail view showing the use of metal rings.

Referring first to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4:

As a substitute for the loops 5, small metal hooks 9, shown in Fig. 5, or metal rings or loops 10, disclosed in Fig. 6, can be employed. When hooks are used, they'are engaged in the shirt stud opening. The hooks 9 or rings 10 arestitched or connected to the necktie at one point 10 only.

As elasticity or non-elasticity, or the provision of one, or a plurality ofretainers are not of the essence of my invention, I do not intend to restrict myself to specific uses in my claims, except when clearly stated.

' Having thus 1 described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 1. A necktie having a plurality of independent retaining devices permanently sewed to the neck-tie at intervals lengthwise of the front loose depending portion thereof and ada ted .to be engaged with the shirt bosom astening.

2. A necktie having sewed thereto a plurality of elastic loops disposed at intervals lengthwise of the front loose depending 1 portion of the necktie and adapted to be engaged with the shirt bosom fastening.
