ITED STATES AARON MARCUS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHAPE-PRESERVER FOR OPEN-ENDED NECKTIIES.
T0 alt whom it may concern Be it known that I, AARON MAncUs, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, (whose post-ottice address is No. 72$) Broadway, New York city,) have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Shapelreservers for Open-Ended Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an open-ended necktie of the ordinary type with a device which will cause it to preserve its shape under all conditions of service, and thereby prolong its life and usefulness. This object is accomplished by my inven' tion, one embodiment of which is hereinafter set forth.
For a more particular description of my invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure l is a plan view of an open-ended necktie provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of one end of the tie shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken 011 the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved tie 1 is provided with the usual outer fabric 2 which may be of silk or similar substance, and this outer fabric incloses a suitable lining 3 in the conventional manner. The lining 3 terminates at points somewhat removed from the extreme ends of the tie, and beyond the lining 3 the fabric 2 is extended so as to form the flaps 4 in the usual way. Suitable stitches 5 secure the outer fabric 2 to the lining 3 near the ends thereof, and next to the seam (3 so that the stitches 5 will not show when the tie is in use. All of the above described parts numbered 1 to 6 inclusive, are old and well known in ties of this character. \Vhen a tie of the kind just above described is used the flaps 4, and the face at the ends of the Specification of Letters Patent.

tie, soon become wrinkled and out of shape and worn, so that the tie becomes unfit for use before it is otherwise worn out. To preserve its fresh appearance and proper shape my inventimi is made and applied.
lVhere it is embodied a tape 7, which may be a ribbon or similar means, is secured to each end of the lining 3 and preferably by the stitches 5 and also to each end of the facing 2 by the stitches S, which are generally employed at the hem. From this it is apparent that the tapes 7 at each end of the tie are secured to the interior at the facing 2 as well as the lining 3 by the stitches 5 and at the extreme ends to the facing 2 but not to the lining.
Vhen the tie is in use and the ends are pulled, the tapes 7 are grasped along with the flaps 4 of the facing 2 and all stresses are transmitted to the lining 3 and the tie is not injured by the operations of tying and untying, so that the life of the tie is prolonged and its freshness preserved by the use of the tapes 7, which are inserted as above described.
\Vhile T have shown and described one embodiment of my invention it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto but is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of the annexed claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In an open-ended necktie, a facing having flaps and inclosing a lining extending to the beginning of the flaps, and a tape secured to the facing and lining adjacent to an end of the lining. and also secured to the extreme end of the facing, so that when the necktie is being tied, the tape will prevent all undue distortion of the necktie.
In testimony whereof I have subscribed my name to the foregoing specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AARON MARCUS. lVitnesses Geo. C. BAKER,
Ray BnnNs'rmN.
