COMBINED TABLE AND IRONING-IBOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented. Sept, 20, 1921.
' I Application "filed February 25, 1920. Serial No. 361,246.
Lancaster, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Tables and Ironing-Boards, of which the fol-- lowing is a specification.
' This invention relates to a combined ironing board and tableand has as one of its prlncipal objects to provide a construction wherein the ironin board will normally be disposed beneath the table top in a position out of the way but wherein, when desired, the ironing board may easily be swung to active position supported on top of the table.
The invention has as a further object to provide a construction wherein the table will include a swingingly mounted section and wherein the ironing board will be fixed to the lower side of said section so that when the section is in its normal position,
- the ironing board will be supported thereby board is swung upwardly,.and
beneath the top of the table while, when the section is swung to rest upon the fixed section of the table top, the ironing board will be disposed in active position.
And the invention has as a still further object to provide a construction wherein the table will be equipped with an apron designed to prevent the clothes, as they are ironed, from dragging on the floor.
Otherand incidental objects will appear hereinafter. V
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined ironing board and table. 7
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the ironing board swung to active position.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through the structure when the ironing Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken through the structure when the ironing board is in inactive position.
In carrying the invention into effect, I employ a table which includes a frame having parallel side bars 10 and 11 respectively, joined by parallel end bars 12. Extending from the frame at its corners are the legs 13 of the table and slidable through the front side bar 10 is a drawer 14.
Secured upon the forward portion of the table frame is a fixed top section 15 and mating with this section to normally extend in alinement therewith is a movable top section 16-secured t0 the fixed section by'suitable hinges. As will be observed, the section "PATENT OFFICE.
16 is somewhat wider than the section 15. v
Mounted upon the lower side of the movable to section to extend longitudinally thereof is anironing board 17. This ironing board is supported adjacent'one end by spaced blocks 18 and engaging through the board and through said blocks are screw bolts or other approved fastening devices 19 firmly connecting the board withthe top section 16. As is. usual, the board is preferably tapered toward its outer end and hinged beneath the outer end of the board is a leg .20 coacting with the top section for sustaining the outer end portion of the board.
As will now be readily appreciated, when the section 16 is swung to closed position resting upon the table frame in alinement with the section 15, the two sections will, as shown in Fig. 1, coact to form the table top so that when it is not desired to employ the ironing board, the table may be used as an ordinary table. However, when it is desired to use the ironing board, it is simply necessary to swing the section 16 of the table top to open position lying upon the section 15 when the ironing board will be supported on top of the table in conveniently accessible position. In this connection, it is to be observed that when the movable top section is closed the ironing board is, as particularly shown in Fig. 4, disposed within the table frame and lies within the lines thereof. The ironing board will thus be protected by the table frame so that objects presence of the ironing board upon the table will not be readily discernible. Further, it
'will be noted that the section 15 forms the front section of the 'table top while the section 16 forms the rear section. Consequently, when the section 16 is closed, the ironing board is disposed adjacent the rear side of the table while when said section is open the ironing boardis disposed adjacent the forward side of the table so that the board may be easily reached.
When the section 16 of the table top is swung forwardly, an opening is, of course, created through the table frame and closing said opening is an apron 21. At its forward margin this apron is secured beneath the rear margin of the section 15 of the top cured to the upper edge of the si e bar 11 of rearwardly across the board, from dragging on the floor. On the other hand, when the top section 16 is closed, the apron will co- 10 operate with said section to form a housing for the ironing board for'excluding dust or dirt therefrom. I accordingly provide a particularly; eflective. construction for the purpose ,set forth and a combined ironing board and table which is particularly simple in. its structural details. Mounted upon. the
frame, a movable to Having thus described the invention, what i is claimed as new is:
A device of the character described in cluding a table frame, a fixed top section secured thereon and covering -a portion of the section hinged to the fixed top section, t e two sections when alined horizontally covering the. entire top of'the table frame, an ironing board fixed to one side of the movablevlsection and housed within the tableframe when the two sections are horizontally alined, and anapron extending between the fixed top section and the side and ends of the frame to house the ironing board when it isj'not in use and to support ironed articles in rear of the ironing boardwhen the .latter'isin I use.
In testimon GEO whereof I afiiir my signature GE W. HUDSON. [L.S.]
