ARTHUR LIVINGSTON NEIL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINATION FURNITURE.
Application filed November 30, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. NEIL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York. borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kingsand State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Furniture, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. t
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in furniture, and it pertains more particularly to furniture of the'combination type.
it is one of the primary objects of the invention to provide a combined table and ironing board, the ironing board being of the folding type.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the ironing board that it will be foldable within the table when not in use.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a suitable means for supporting the board from the table when the same is in operative position.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the table with the ironing board folded inwardly thereof;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the ironing board in operative position;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the top of the table in raised position with the board folded upon the interior thereof;
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises a table 5 supported upon legs 6 in the ordinary manner. The table 5 is provided with a top 7 and said top is hingedly secured to one of the sides of the table by means of hinges 8. The table is formed with two end walls 9 and l0, and the end wall 10 is cut out as inclicated by the reference character 11.
Pivotally mounted within the table 5 adjacent the end wall 10, as indicated by the reference character 12, is a board 13. Hingedly secured to said board 13 by means of hinges or the like 14, is a board Serial No. 427,379.
15, and rigidly carried by the board 15 is an ironing board 16.
By this construction it is apparent that as the ironing board is moved from its position within the table to the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the board 13 will occupy a position adjacent the end wall 10 of the table. The board 15 will swing about its hinges let to a horizontal position thus positioning the ironing board in a horizontal plane. Owing to the notched or cut-out portion 11 in the end wall 10, the ironing board 16 will occupy the horizontal plane with its top edge flush with the top face of the top 7 of the table, thus affording a smooth working surface on the board of which the table is an extension.
To aid in supporting the board 16 to prevent sagging thereof, a 'prop 20 is employed, and said prop 20 comprises a rectangular frame member hingedly secured to the under face of the board 16 by means of clips or the like 21 The rectangular frame 20 is preferably strengthened by means of a transverse brace 22, and the lower end of said frame or prop is adapted to be received in clips or the like 23 carried near the bottom of two of the end legs of the table.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that when it is desired to set the ironing board up for use, it is only necessary to raise the top 7 of the table and fold the ironing board inwardly thereof, after which the rectangular frame is engaged with the clips 23 to support the board in horizontal posi tion. If, however, the board is not in use, the rectangular frame is folded against the rear face thereof and the'board and frame are folded within the table.
It will also be apparent that the present invention provides a new and. improved con struction of ironing board andtable, said table forming a support for the ironing board when the latter is in its operative position, and at the same time the table forms a compartment for the board when not in use.
I claim: I
In combination with a table having a hinged lid adapted to form the top of the table, the top edge of'one of the end walls of said table being cut away, a board pivotally board may fold outwardly of the table mounted in the table adjacent the said cutto ahorizontal position and have its upper out end wail-and having its upper edge flush. face lying in a plane flush with the top face 10 therewith, a second board hingedly conof the lid forming the table top when the 5 nected to said edge and having a thickness lid is in its closed position.
equal to the depth of said cutout, an ironing board carried thereby whereby the ironing ARTHUR LIVINGSTON NEIL.
