COMBINED KITCIIEN AND IRONING TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 12,1913.
Application filed January 14, 1913. Serial No. 741,910.
To all whom it may camera:
Be it known that I, Emvnsr C. Pnnsco'rr, a citizen of the United States, residing at I'Iaverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Combined Kitchen and Ironing Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in kitchen or laundry tables, and more particularly to certain improvements in a table of this character which is adapted both for use as an ironing table and for a kitchen or dining table.
The object of my invention is to providea table of the above described character with an improved and simplified construction, whereby it may be readily converted into an ironing table.
I accomplish this object by the means shown in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a table provided with my invention and arranged in position for use as a kitchen or dining table. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the table showing the parts in position for use as an ironing table. Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the parts in the position of Fig. 2. Figs. 1 and 5 are detail views of a form of hinge and hinge connection which I preferably employ.
As shown in the drawing the top of the table comprises a main section a, mounted upon a standard I), and a leaf section a, which is connected by hinges to one edge portion of the sect-ion a in the usual manner. A pair of brackets (Z are connected to the main part of the table and are adapted to be swung outwardly to support the section 0, as shown in Fig. 1, or to be folded beneath the section a, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, when it is desired to lower the leaf section 0, or to fold it over the section a, as hereafter described.
According to my invention I secure an ironing-board middle section 6 to the under side of the leaf section 0, by any suitable means, as screws, said section terminating short of the ends of the leaf section a, as shown in Fig. 3, providing supporting end portions, as hereinafter described. End sections f and g are connected by double jointed hinges h to the ends of the middle section 6 and are adapted to form with the section 6 a complete ironing-board of the poses,
usual form, and to be folded onto the outer side of the middle section 6, as shown in the dotted position of Figs. 2 and 3, the ends of said sections moving into close proximity when held in this position, so that they may be conveniently connected to gether by any suitable means as the hook t. The abutting edges of the sections f and g with the middle section e are preferably faced with angle-irons j, shown in detail in Fig. 5, which act to form a rigid connection therebetween.
With the above described device, when the table is to be used for its ordinary puras a kitchen or dining table, the leaf section 0 will be raised and the brackets cZ will be swung out to the position of Fig. 1, so that said end-portions of said section 0 will rest on said brackets to support the same, in which position the ironing-board e, f, 9 will be supported on the under side of said section 0, so that it will in no way interfere with the use of the table for this purpose. When it is desired to use the device for an ironing table, the leaf section 0 will be folded over onto the main section a, so that it will rest thereon, as indicated in the dotted position of Fig. 1, and then the end sections 7" and 9 will be disconnected and swung outwardly to the full line position of Figs. 2 and 3, in which position they will be supported by said end portions of said section 0, so that no supporting bracket therefor will be necessary. In this position the sections 0, f and 9 will provide an unbroken, or practically continuous level surface of the desired shape and size for an ironing-table, and which is readily convertible into an ordinary table, in a manner which will be obvious.
I claim 1. A table comprising a top section arranged to be supported with either side uppermost, an ironing-board middle section secured to one side of said top section, and terminating short of each end thereof, so that said top section has relatively projecting end portions, end sections pivotally connected respectively to the ends of said middle section, and arranged to be supported on the projecting end-portions of said top section when said ironing-board sections are held uppermost, to provide ironing surfaces continuous with the surface of said middle section, and to be folded onto said middle section, so that said top section may be supported by its end-portions When in its opposite position, substantially as described. 4
2. In combination With a table having main top section a leaf section hinged to one edge of said main section and arranged to be folded thereof, an ironing-board middle section secured to the under side of said leaf section and terminating short of each end thereof to'provide supporting end portions and end sections pivotally connected to the ends of said middle section and arranged to be supported on said end portions When the leaf section is supported on the top section, and to provide ironing surfaces continuous With the surface of said middle section, said end sections being adapted to be folded onto said middle section and having -means to secure them in folded position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name tothis specification, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
