B. R- DEXTER TABLE SUPPORT Filed April 24 192.3
INVENTOR BZ/YfflM/IY 12. 019F759,
ATTORNEY I Patented Nov. 11, 1924.
i; a M r BENJAMIN R. DEXTER, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
TABLE SUPPORT.
Application filed April 24, 1923.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN R. DEXTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Table Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved folding sup port for collapsible tables, camp tables attachable to motor cars, desk fronts, shaving shelves, beds and ironing boards, and other folding household fixtures.
Another object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive folding support which will fit into any built-in or portable furniture, or which can be fastened to any wall or door and serve as a convenient support in connection with breakfast cabinets, kitchen cabinets and buffets.
Referring to the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated and which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my folding support opened up and supporting a table in position for use.
Figure 2 is a side view of my support in folded position.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of my folding support with a table in position for use.
My folding support 1 consists of a pair of foldable supporting members 2 and 3 which are pivoted to each other at the point at by means of pins 5. The supporting members 2 have headed pins 6 through their ends with which they are journaled in slots 7 of angle plate brackets 8. These angle plate brackets 8 are fastened onto a door or wall 1) by means of screws 10. Braces 11 are pivoted to the supporting members 3 at one end and at their other end they are journaled in slots .12 of a pair of lower angle plates 13, which are also fastened to the wall 9 by means of screws 10. Plates 14 and 15 are mounted on said supporting members 2 and 8 respectively to form a table. In order to prevent the table from collapsing when in the open position, the supporting members 3 Serial No. 634,278.
have protruding arms 16 and plate 15 has a lip 15 formed on one end thereof. This lip 15 projects over the protruding arm 16 of the supporting member 3 and rests upon the supporting member 2 when in unfolded position, thus reinforcing the joint 4.
In order to bring the table back into a folded position, it is necessary to depress the end of the plate 15 or pull the plate 15 upwardly near its breaking point 17. The supporting members 14 and 15 will then swing towards each other until they have come into a vertical position. At the same time the supporting members 2 and 3 have pulled the braces 11 upwardly with them. When this folding operation has been accomplished, the supporting member 2 is secured to the door 9 by means of a hook 18.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A folding support comprising foldable forward and rearward supporting bars, said supporting bars being pivoted to each other, a plate secured to said forward supporting bars and a second plate secured to said rearward bars, said forward plate having a lip formed on one end thereof adapted to rest upon said rearward supporting bars, braces pivoted to said forward supporting barsbrackets, said brackets having slots formed therein, and pins in said rearward supporting bars and said braces adapted to enter said slots, said brackets being secured to a wall.
BENJAMIN R. DEXTER.
