Application led July 25,
,To all whom 'it may concern:
.Be it known that l, EANinL A. LANZA, a
subject of the King of Italy, residing at Seymour, in the county of New Haven and State of'Connecticut, have invented certain useful improvements in Combination-Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
' This invention relates to improvements in combination tables, oneobject of the invention being the provision ot a tableV which is especially adapted for usev in Hats or apartments, and which embodies in one, a dresser, a shaving table, an ironing board, u mining compartment for bread or any other use, and a kneading board.
A further object of this 'invention is the provision of 'a table ot this character which combines in a single structure by its peculiar combination and arrangement of leaves, an ideal piece of furniture for use in apartments or lats, and in which every part oi the table is utilized for a certain purpose.
ln the accompanying d-rawingszllfigure 1 is a perspective view of the complete table collapsed. l v
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the table.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3*?. ot Fig. 2.
Fig. le is a cross section taken on line elf-4.- of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an end view of the table showing one of the leaves extended and the two members of the top raised.
Fig'. 6 is a similar view showing the iron ing board in use and the rear leal extended.
Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views ot various parts.
Referringl to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the legs which have attached thereto the long front and rear walls 1l and 12 and the end walls 12 and 13, a bottom 1t being suspended between the walls.
'lhe wall 13 is provided with the opening 16 tor the reception oi the drawer 17.
Connected to the top of the walls are the respective end pieces 18 and 19 of the top ot the table, the end piece 19 of the top or the table being provided with the opening 20 disposed transversely ot the top and having hingedly connected 'thereto the cover 21. y
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented dpr. 3o, i919.
191e. serial no. 111,225.
The hinged cover 25 cooperates with the ends 18 and 19 and forms a complete top for the major portion of the table, and also forms a cover for the respective receptacles 26 and 27 which constitute, as shown, a pan for mixing iour and a shallow receptacle 'for knives, forks, and the like, respectively.
rllhe auxiliary cover 29 is provided to fit over either one oi' the receptacles within the table and is readily slid from one to the other.
Hingedly connected to the Jfnward edge of the sections 18 and 19 of the table by means oi' the hinges 30 is a longitudinal strip 31 which carries upon the thereof the hinges 32, by means of which the board or leaf 33 is hingedly connected thereto to form an extension tor Vthe top et the table when the bracket 35 is' extended or when the same is 'folded upon the main top of the table to expose the ironing board' 3G for use. A bracket 85 is hingedly connected to the upper edge of the rear wall ot' the table and is adapted to swing in a horizontal plane and when positioned as shown in Fig. 5 this bracket is adapted to support the ironing board 36 and therefore the board or leaf B3.
Hingedly connected by means ot the hinge 3'? to the extreme rear ends of the sections l@ and 19 is the rear leaf 38 or' the table and swinging, arm, the brackets Q9 being provided to hold the'saine elevated and in the same plane with the top of the table.
lt will be noted that when the cover is elevated, it is impossible to elevate the rear leaf. and vice versa.
`Where so desired, the inner face of the main hinged cover ot the top may be provided with a mirror so that the saine will be exposed when the leaf is elevated.
What l claim as new is 1. ln combination, a hollow table body having a horizontal bottom, four walls mounted upon the bottom ot said table and inclining toward the same so as to Yforno a receptacle therewith, one ot said inclined walls being shorter than the remaining walls and having an upper tlat edge, and a cover formed with beveled edges upon all of its sides, said cover having its beveled edges engaging the inclined sides of said receptacles so as to be normally supported therein with its bottoni substantially hush with the lower edge whereupon nel strip and having upper flut edge of the shorter inclined well seid cover muy be slid over the last-named edge of said shorter Well to open the top of said receptacle.
2. In a device of the class described, in combination, a, table top consisting of e longitudinal strip and two end 4strips at right angles and connected to said longitudilongitudinal sides depending with respect to seid strips, a, cover adapted to have three of its edges closed against the inner edges of seid longitudinal and end strips end having its remaining edge flush With the outer edges of said end strips, hinges consisting of leaves secured to one oi said depending sides of seid table, leaves countersunk into the under side of said cover, an extension board of the seine length as the top of the table, hinges having leaves connected to the end leaves counter-sunk in the inner longitudinal edge of said extension board, the inner side of said extension board being formed with a channel providing :L recess upon its inner edge Within which is received the outer edge of the said cover when the latter is in :in upright position.
In testimony whereof I e'fiix my signature.
