Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed .Tune 14, 1913.
Patented JT an. 13, 1314..
serial No. 773,787.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE L. HUN- TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hollywood, California, have invented a new and useful Portable Kitchenette, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a kitchenette or kitchen cabinet having a large number of useful features in a very small space; and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
,ln the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective of a Ikitchenette embodying the principles of my invention partly open for use, the drawers being closed. Fig. ,2 is a perspective of the kitchenette closed. F ig. 3 is a perspective with the drawers open and the balance closed. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the lines 4-4 of Figs. 3 andi). Fig. 5 is a fragmentary vertical section' on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4. Fig. Gisi" fragmentary view on the same line as Fig. 5 and showing the folding table partly extended.A
rl[`he base 1 is a rectangular inclosure having cupboard spaces 2 and 3 at the ends and drawer space 4 in the 'center open at the front. The cupboard spaces 2 and 3 are substantially alike and are closed by the end doors 5'and 6. rIhe shelves 7 are adjustable up and down like book shelves, to make the desired spaces between the shelves.
rllhe drawers 8 are mounted in the drawer space 4. 'llhe bottoms 9 of the drawer compartments 10 are rounded, preferably semicircular and the bot-toms 11 of the chambers in which the drawers slide are correspondingly rounded. This form of drawer and drawer slide has greatadvantages over the flat bottom drawer. lft is easier to get the material out of the drawer and the drawer will not cramp andstick, works easier and stands better when drawn out.
A chamber 12 is formed above the drawers and shelves for the folding `removable ironing board 13 and a second chamber 14 is formed for the folding removable'table 15. The top 16 of the base supports the gas cooker 17. The door 18 closes the front of the chambers 12 and 14 anddoors 19 close the ends of said chambers. A wall 20 extends up from the top 16 across the ends andback. rllhe cover 21 is hinged tothe back part of the Wall and rests upon the end parts. A brace 22'serves to hold the cover elevated. A strap 22a is attached to the front or lower face of the cover at intervals to hold knives and the like. A door 23 is hinged to the front edge of the cover to form a front wall when the cover is down.
The details of the folding removable ironing board 13 are as follows: A floor 24 is fixed in the base 1 and has a slot 25 extending parallel with the front and nearthe center from end to end, said slot being open preferably at the right hand end. A bolt 26 extends through the head of the ironing board and through the slot 25 and through a washer plate 27 below the floor 24 to make a pivot for the ironing board. rllhe ironing board may be folded into the chamber 12 out of use and it may be extended either forwardly or endwise for use. The pivot slides endwise of the base in the slot and the ironing board may be removed through the end door, the pivot sliding out of the open end of the slot.
rlhe details of the folding removable table 15 are as follows: rlhe bed 29 has two pairs `of folding legs 30 and 31 provided with folding braces 32. The table may be folded and slid into the chamber 12 and it may be pulled partly out of the chamber and one pair of legs unfolded or it may be removed entirely from the chamber 'and stand upon both pairs of legs.
rlhe details of construction may be varied in many ways without departing from the spirit of my invention as set up in the following claim.
lt claim: y
lin a kitchenette, a base having a horizontal chamber open at the front and end, a floor in the bottom of said chamber having a longitudinal slot open at the open end of the chamber, an ironing'board'in the chamber, and a pivot extending through the ironing board into the slot, so that the ironing board may be extended through the front opening or through the end opening or removed through the end opening, said pivot sliding in said slot.
