4 SHEETS-SHEET 4- ROBERT L. LEATHERMQN, 0F MOUNT PLEASANT, PENNSYLVANIA.
, nmmmnooiu cnnmn'r.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that -I Bonnn'r L. LEATHER- MAN a citizen of the flnited States, residin at Mount Pleasant, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have in-. vented certain new and useful Improvements in a Dining-Room Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in cabinets and comprises a dining room cabinet, especially adapted to be used in over-crowded living quarters, and includes a china closet, buffet, and a concealed table.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a cabinet, presenting an attractive appearance, and especially adapted to be used in a dining room, including a concealed china closet, extension table, a buffet, a hidden ironing board, several drawers, and a linen closet, as well as a closet for the storing of the extra table leaves.
With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claim, it being further understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings formin a part of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views;
Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a dining room cabinet embodying my invention, showing the horizontal drop door as partly broken away and one of the end doors as open.
Figure 2 is a top view showing the table withdrawn the upper portion of the cabinet being cut away.
Figure 3 is a sectional elevation disclosing the table as withdrawn.
Figure 4 is a side elevation disclosing the ironing board as withdrawn, the table being completely housed.
In carrying out the aim of my invention I employ a cabinet including a back 1, the two ends 2, 2 top 3, and the stub bottom 4, from the forward edge of which extends the rear wall 5. As shown the stub bottom 4 is less than half the width of the end members 2.
Specification of LettersPatent.
Application filed April 7, 1921.
Patented Mar. 14, 1922. Serial No. 459,370.
Formed adjacent to each end member 2, 2'
is an end compartment B, made by means of shown in Figure 1. The tops 8 extend over the rear wall 5, as disclosed in Figure 2. The rear wall 5 is of such a height that the tops 8 rest on the upper edge of this wall, horizontally as shown in Figure 4.
Located between the end compartments B is the central compartment C, formed by means of the bottom 11 the doors 16 which also close the end spaces X, these doors being secured by means of the hinges 9 shown in Figure 1.
The ends 2 are connected by means of the horizontal supporting batten 18, located a suitable distance above the tops 8, 8, as shown in Figure 4, while extending from this batten18 are the cleats 19 supporting the top drawer 20, the top 3 completing the buffet structure as shown in Figure 3. The horizontal space Y, formed above the central compartment is closed by the drop door 21. Held by means of hinges 22'.
Fixed to the forward edge of the top 1 5, is the strip 26 while held in the rear compartment F, formed by means of the members 1, 6 and 2, 2, is the board 22 dividing this compartment into an upper and lower compartment, as shown in Figure 3, the table leafs G being held in said lower'compartment.
Extendin from the strip 26, fixed to the top 15, is t rear end fixed to the upper edge of the rear strip 5', as shown in Figure 3 the strip 5' being provided with the access opening Z.
Arranged to slide in the slot of the rail 24 is the head 27 held to the rear end of the lazy tongs H, the forward end of the tong being held to the bearing head 30. The front ends of the forward tong members 5 are cut oblique as shown in Figure 2, thus insuring the table being held straight while withdrawn.
ends 12 and the top 15 all of these members extending from the g the inner Walls 6, bottom 7 and top 8, as
e slotted rail 24 which has its front l, doors n, and top 0.
The table comprises the frame members 32 to which is secured the top 31, the lazy tong bars being of such a length that they fold compactly against the frame members when the table is closed in its space as shown in Figure 42. The table top is provided with the pull a the legs 33 being fixed to the tong members and the frame corners as shown.
The china cabinet comprises the sides 7:, If desired the china closet may be made separate, and not form a part of the bullet, as shown in the drawings.
In Figure 4 I have shown the buffet as provided with the ironing board S provided with the stop cleat p above and which is stopped against the plate r the end ofthe board having the bottom cleat s as shown. The ironing board S may be pivotally mounted, as shown at 8, if desired.
The, rear compartment may be closed by the door 35 at one end of the cabinet.
The table is normally concealed being held in the horizontal space Y formed above the central compartment C and in the communicating end spaces X, X as shown in Figures 1 and 4. When it is desired to use the table the same is withdrawn in simply raising the drop door 21, in using the pull a and drawing the table out of its compartments and inserting the leaves G when the table is ready to be set. When not required the table leaves are removed and the table is shoved into its compartment in the manner shown in Figure 1.
From the fore oing description, taken'in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
I have entered into a somewhat detailed description of the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cabinet of the class described comprising end members, a back member and horizontal transerve members, vertical spaced members depending from certain of said horizontal transverse members to provide end compartments, partition members arranged between said end compartments to provide a transverse table accommodating compartment extending over said end compartments and vertical tab-1e le accommodating compartments immediately inwardly of said end compartment, a table normally resting in the transverse table accommodating compartment with the legs in the table leg accommodating compartments and adapted to be withdrawn at times, a closure member normally closing the front side of the table accommodating compartment, closure doors for said end compartments adapted to extend over and close the table leg accommodating compartments to hide the table legs when said closure doors are closed, drawers slidably mounted between said partition members and serving as central drawers for the lower part of the cabinet, said cabinet having a table leaf accommodating rear compartment, and means for closing said rear compartment. v
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
