KITCHEN CABINET invenrlor Patented Oct. 25, 1932 UNITED KITCHEN CABINET Application filed June 3, 1931. Serial No. 541,8'59;
The present invention relates to a cabinet construction and has for its prime object to provide a table incorporated in the cabinet construction in such a manner that itmay be folded to form one of the walls of the cabinet or may be extended into a position in extension of the cabinet when desired to be used.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a cabinet of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to manipulate, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section therethrough taken substantially on the'line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but showing the table in extended position.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the line 41 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a vertical section taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a detail section taken substantially on the line 66 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a sectional View taken substantially on the line 77 of Figure 3, and
Figure 8 is an inside view of the table structure.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numerals 5 denote end walls, numeral 6 a top and numeral 8 a front wall. The front wall 8 extends from the top 6 and terminates a short distance downwardly therefrom. This front wall 8 has an opening through which is slidable a drawer 9 on inturned flanges 10 at the bottom ends of plates 11 which depend from the top 6 inwardly at the side walls 5.
A combination front wall section and table 5? comprises a leaf section l6hinged as at 23 to the fixed front wall section 8. A plate 12 is connected with the section 16 in alinement with said section through the medium of a pair of fixed cleats 19 secured at one end to the under or inner side of the leaf section 16 in any suitable manner and at said ends the cleats 19 are connected by a cross bar 21. A pair of cleats 20 are suitably secured to the inner or under side of the plate 12 and adjacent the free end of the plate 12, the cleats 20 are connected by a cross bar 22. Cleats 19 are provided with grooves and cleats 20 are provided with tongues engaging the grooves of the cleats 19 whereby a slidable connection is provided between plates 12 and 16 so that when the plate 12 and leaf 16 are in horizontal position, plate 12 may be slid outwardly therefrom thus providing as it were an extensible table top and between the leaf section 16 and plate 12 thereof there may be arranged one or more auxiliary leaves (not shown) to be supported in position by the cleats 19, 20 in a manner similar to extension table now in use and well liIlOWIl in the art.
A pair of legs 17 are hinged as at 18 to the plate 12 adjacent the lower or outer edge thereof and adapted to be folded against the inside of the plate 12 and leaf 16 as suggested in Figure 8 when plate 12 and leaf 16 are in vertical alinement with one another and with the front wall section 8, or in other words in the position suggested in Figures 1 and 2.
Manifestly when the combined front wall and table top is to be used as a table the section or leaf 16 together with plate 12 are swun outwardly to the position shown in Figure 8 and the legs 17 also swung to a supporting position.
With the parts in the position shown in ore-nos L Figure 3 a relatively small table extension for the cabinet is provided and this table extension may be increased by the addition of the usual table leaf in the manner hereinbefore suggested.
The plate 12 is also provided with an opening, and a door 15 for closing the opening is provided, and is hinged as at 14. Thus pr0 vision is made for access to the interior of the lower portion of the cabinet when the parts 12 and 16 are in vertical or wall forming position.
An auxiliary cabinet 25 may be mounted on the top 6 to rise therefrom. Inside the 5 lower cabinet there may be provided a shelf 26 terminating a distance from the front ed of the walls 5.
t is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail 15 merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. 25 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A combined cabinet and table comprising in combination, a drawer, an extension table, a front wall section having an opening through which said drawer is slidable and said extension table including a section hinged to the front wall section, cleats secured at one end to said hinged section, a sliding as section, cleats secured to the sliding section and having sliding engagement with the first named cleats, hinged legs connected with said sliding section, and a door arranged in said sliding section to afiord access to the cabi- 40 net beneath said drawer.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK VIRCHOW.
