Description

Dec. 1 7, 1929. H, BAKER 1,740,327
DISPLAY CABINET Filed Oct. 148. 1928 T,fv 4
INVENTOR.
Patented Het.. 17, 1929 stares HARRY BAKER, 0F ELMIRA, NEEV YORK DISPLAY CABINET Application filed October 18, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in display cabinets, particularly the type set forth in my co-pending application, Serial No. 296,479, filed July 31st, 1928.
The primary object of this invention, is to provide a display cabinet of the. type above mentioned having common means whereby each of the folding covers may be supported when opened by a suitable hinge member.
An other object of this invention, is to pro vide a device of the above mentioned character with means for hinging the inner connected display cover.
Other objects and advantages of the invention, will become apparent during the course of the following description, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display cabinet showing the embodiments of the invention attached thereto;
Figure 2 is a perspective view partly in section showing the supporting member sup porting one of the inner connected folding covers;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a display cabinet partly in section showing the intermediate hinged leaf and the cover of the display cabinet supported by the embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 41 is an end elevational view of the display cabinet showing the manner and arrangementof the parts embodying this invention.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention, attention is directed to the drawing wherein is shown a display cabinet A, including a bottom wall 5 having ends 6, a front 7 and back wall 8. A hinged cover 9 is secured to the front wall of the box A, said wall being designated by the reference character 7 and connected to the display cover 9 is hingedly secured a similar display cover 10. An auxiliary display cover 11 is mounted between the display covers 9 and 10 and is adapted to hinge and fold therewith. All of the above structure has been described in my pending application hereinbefore referred to.
The embodiment of the invention includes a novel arrangement of a tying or supporting element 12 which is adapted to have one of its ends secured. to the end wall 6 of the dis- Serial No. 313,326.
play box A and it may be fastened by passing the supporting element 12 through eyelets 18 and tying the loose ends to the supporting element-s 12. The opposite end of the supporting member 12 is threaded through the hinged display cover 9 as at 14 and is connected to the upper display cover 10 by passing the free end through eyelets 15 and tying the loose ends as at 16. The intermediate display leaf 11 is hinged at the vertex of the upper cover 10 and the lower cover 9 and is adapted to pass between the supporting elements 12.
The operation of the display cabinet is as follows; .a customer upon entering a store in which a display device of the above mentioned character has been installed merely raises the displaycover 10 and gains access to the different types of samples carried thereby. The intermediate leaf may also be raised into the position shown in Figure 3 from the position shown in Figure 2 and the display samples on both sides thereof can be readily observed. At this point, the supporting device 12 operates in a peculiar manner to support the cover 10 and at the same time to retain the display cover 9 into engagement with the display cabinet A. Should the customer desire copies of the displayed samples, the clerk folds the cover 10 into the position shown in Figure 1 and folds the display cover 9 in the opposite direction in order to provide copies of the original selected sample. rThe supporting device 12 acts in the same manner as described above and supports the display covers 9 and 10 in the opposite direction. i
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent and it is to be noted, that the supporting member 12 performs the two functions to wit: supporting the display covers 9 and 10 and supporting both the covers while access is being had to the interior of the display. boX A.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departv ing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
l. A display cabinet comprising a cabinet section, a pair of hingedly connected display covers with one cover hinged to the cabinet section and common means for supporting each cover on its hinge in open position.
2. A display cabinet comprising a cabinet section7 a pair of hinged display covers, and a supporting element for the display covers secured to the cabinet section and passing through one of the covers and attached to the other cover for maintaining the covers in open positions.
3. A display cabinet comprising a cabinet section, a pair of display covers hingedly connected together with one cover hinged to the cabinet section and a supporting element having one of its ends secured t0 the display cabinet and its other end secured to the upper hinged display cover and associated with the lower hinged display cover whereby one cover issupported in an open position at one side of the cabinet section or both covers supported in an open position at the other `side of the cabinet section.
4l. A display cabinet comprising a cabinet section, a pair of display covers hingedly connected together with one cover hinged to the cabinet section and a single supporting element secured to the cabinet sections for supporting both of the hinged display covers in open position.
5. In a display cabinet including bottom, side and end walls, a pair of inner connected display covers hingedly connected to the front wall of the display cabinet, and a Vflexible supporting element secured to the display cabinet, adapted to pass through the lower hinged cover and adapted to be connected to the upper hinged cover.
6. In a display cabinet comprising a cabinet section, upper and lower display covers hingedly connected thereto, and a ieXible tying element for supporting the upper and the lower display covers when in oppositely hinged position.
In testimony whereof I aiX my signature.
