The subject matter of this invention has to do with a display box and more particularly is concerned with a serviceable and practical container having a hinged lid secured to the rear wall of the box and carrying a transparent window to permit viewing of the contents within the box While the lid is closed and to permit when raised convenient and direct access to the contents within the box. The object of the invention resides in the provision of a depending fold carrying a swingable lid and a pivoted advertising panel. Another object is realized in effectively interposing the depending fold between spaced sides of the box prior to securing the fold to the rear wall thereof. Another specific object has to do with a depending fold including front and rear components integral with and swingably carrying the lid and panel respectively. Other important objects and salient advantages will appear from the following detailed specification considered with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the display box according to one embodiment of my invention illustrating in the hinged lid or cover closed on the box and the advertising but foldable panel in an upright viewable position.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of Fig. 1 but with combined lid and panel detached from the box.

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line l4 of Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a slightly modified box in accordance with the invention, and

Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-45 of Fig. 5.

In the embodiment according to Figs. 1 to 4, the box B is of conventional rectangular form for holding confectionery or other articles. Lid or cover L telescopes only over the sides and front wall of the box and is provided with the transparent window W to permit inspection of the contents even though the lid is fully seated or closed as illustrated in Fig. l.

Integrally merged with the depending rear flange RW of the rim R of the lid and folded thereagainst in continuous fiatwise relation is the lower margin LM in turn integral with upper swingable panel or flap P. The crease line CL permits the panel P to be swung relative to the lower margin LM which in fact is an intervenor between the pan-e1 and the rear flange or wall RW of the depending rim R. This flange RW although a part of the lid has its ends RE disconnected or free of the rear ends of the sides SR of the lid. It follows that the intervenor LM and rear flange RW constitute complementary portions or components of a depending U-shaped fold generally designated F adapted to be readily inserted at the rear and Within the box between the spaced sides S of the box and thereafter secured against the rear wall WL by wire staples WS as is well understood. To facilitate tilting of the lid towards or away from the box crease line CRL is provided at the confluence of the rear flange or component RW of the lid and the forwardly projecting lip LP constituting the rear flank of the cover.

With the fold F fastened to the rear wall WL, the lid may be quickly lifted away from the front wall FW of the box, that is, swung upwardly relative to the fixed fold F to provide access to the interior of the box without disturbing the upright position of the swingable panel P which may carry appropriate advertising. During shipment, panel P is swung downwardly to bear flatwise against the closed lid L to conserve space.

Briefly recapitulating, fold F is integral with the lid and panel and in fact when secured may be considered as depending from the overhanging lip or member LP of the lid and also from the hinged panel and when fastened to the rear wall WL of the box by the staples WS, the components, namely, flange RW and the intervenor LM are in juxtaposition and secured together against expansion.

In the form according to Figs. 5 and 6 the lid L' is fully transparent and preferably formed of a cellulose acetate but its rear part is fastened by transparent glue G on the top face of the forwardly projecting lip or ledge LP integral with the front component or flange RW' of the fold F. In other aspects the form according to Figs. 5 and 6 is along the lines of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1-4 except in Figs. 5 and 6 front depending flange FD has its ends also severed from the depending sides SR. of the lid. In Figs. 1 and 2 the hinged lip LP of course is integral with the lid L and for purposes of specification may also be considered as a, forwardly extending member swingable relative to the fixed fold F as in the case of the forwardly extending swingable lip LP forwardly overhanging the fastened fold F.

Various changes may be made in details of construction and arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof inherent therein.

I claim:

1. In combination, a box having a rear wall, a

U-shaped depending fold comprising front' and rear juxtapositioned components inserted within said box adjacent to said wall, a panel above and integrally merged with the upper part of said rear component, means securing said components together and said fold to said rear wall, a lid for removably covering said box, a member integral with and carried at the rear part of said lid and forwardly overhanging the upper part of said front component and integral therewith, a crease line at the junction of said panel and rear component to provide for swinging of said panel relative to said lid, and a crease line at the confluence of said member and said front component to allow hinged displacement of said lid away from or towords said box.

In combination, a box having a rear transverse wall, a depending U-shaped fold comprising front and rear juxtapositioned components inserted within said box adjacent to said Wall, a panel above and integrally merged with the upper part of said rear component, means securing said components together and said fold to said rear wall, a lid for removably covering said box and including an opening, a member integral with and carried at the rear part of said lid and forwardly overhanging the upper part of said front component and integral therewith, a crease line at the junction of said panel and rear component to provide for swinging of said panel relative to said lid, a crease line at the confluence of said member and said front component to allow hinged displacement 01 said lid away from or said box, and a transparent window carried by said lid and member and covering said opening.

In combination, a box having a rear wall, a depending U-shaped fold comprising front and rear juxtapositioned components inserted within said box adjacent .to said wall, a panel above and integrally merged with the upper part of said rear component, means securing said components together and said fold to said rear wall, a swingable member integral with nd forwardly overhanging the upper part of said front component, a transparent lid for covering said box and having a rear part secured to said member, a crease line at the junction of said panel and rear component to provide for swinging of said panel relative to said lid, and a crease line at the confluence of said member and front component to allow hinged displacement of said lid away from or towards said box.
