This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combination table and swiveled ironing board.
One object of my invention is to provide a swiveled ironing board that is concealed in an out-of-the-way position under the table top when not in use.
A further object of my invention is to provide a swiveled ironing board that ma be adjusted to and rigidly locked in any position desired on the table top.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a combination table and swiveled ironing board that is simple and economical in construction, and highly efficient and durable in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my combination table and swiveled ironing board, with the latter in raised position ready for use.
Figure 2 is a similar view, showing the position of the swiveled ironing board when not in use.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the assembly shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a vertical longitudinal section, taken on line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a detail .plan view of the base and locking member, and Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of the turn-table and locking member.
Referring to the drawings for a, more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the table, and B the swiveled ironing board.
In carrying out my invention, the table top I is provided with the folding longitudinally disposed half-section 2, which is hinged at its inner edge to the adjacent edge of the stationary section of the table top, by means of the hinges 3, which are invisible when the folding section is in lowered or normal position.
As shown, one end of the folding section 2 of the ironing board, is provided with a cylindrical inwardly flared base 4, which is rigidly secured to the under side of said folding section, and provides a bearing or support for the cylindrical hub or turn-table 5, to which is rigidly attached one end of the ironing board B. The turn-table 5 and ironing board B are swiveled to the base 4, by means of the perpendicular bolt 6. A locking member I, in the form of a fiat elongated metal bar, is pivotally connected at its inner end, as at 8, to the center of the turn-table and is adapted to engage any one of a series of inclined slots or grooves 9 in the perimeter of the base 4, whereby the swiveled ironing board B may be locked in any position desired on top of the table.
In practice, when the folding section 2 of the table top is in normal position, the ironing board is in a concealed out-of-the-way position under the table top. To use the ironing board, the folding section 2 is first raised and then lowered against the top of the stationary section of the table top, which brings the ironing board into position for use, and which may be swung into any position desired with respect to the table top, and rigidly locked in such position by the locking member I.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood, without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In combination with a table top formed with a hinged folding section, a cylindrical base rigidly secured to the under side and one end of said folding section, said base formed in and entirely around its upper face with a series of downwardly inclined radial grooves, a turn-table mounted to turn on said base, an ironing board rigidly secured at one end to said turn-table, and a locking bar pivoted at its inner end to the turn-table and adapted to engage any one of said downwardly inclined radial grooves to lock the ironing board in any desired position with respect to the table top.
