- Patented July 2,1918.
HARRY To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, flannxlvanoorr, a citizenof the United States, and resident of New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knickerbockers, of which the following'is a specification.
My invention relates to knickei'bockers and more particularlyto such as are usually worn by children and youths. Such knickerbockers are usually unlined and being ofttimes made i ner surface exert an in urious frictional ac tion on the underwear or uncomfortably contact with the person of the wearer. In addition such knickerbockers are often internally soiled and to be washed as a unit, an operation ofttimes injurious to the fabric and cut of the knickerbocker, particularly in the case of cheap garments. My improvement has for its object to overcome the above objectionable features by providing such garments with a removable lining which by being interposed between the fabric of the knickerbocker and the underwear or person of the wearer prevents injurious or uncomfortable contact therewith and by being easily detached from the garment may be easily washed or cleaned as a separate unit. My improvement will be fully described hereinafter and the features of novelty will be pointed out in the appended claim.
An example of my invention is shown in drawings in which Figon the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
As illustrated in the drawings the knickerbockers comprise the usual body 5 and integral leg sections 6, the body in the illustrated example being formed with opposed edges 7 and 8 adapted to be detachably secured together in any suitable manner as by means of button-holes 9 and buttons 10 to open and close the usual front opening of garments of this type. The latter may also be provided with an inner waist-ban and may further include any other features or elements which in garments of the kind in question.
My improved lining comprises a body 12 preferably having a waist band 13 and formed integrally or otherwise with leg secs eat-a of Letters fatent. appueatio jfi eki February 11, 191B. Serial no. 77,564.
' ing 1 portions of of material having a rough nv lining into proper when desired I are customarily present mime, ouiinw roan, N. Y.
Patented July tions 14 and further constructed wili dp} posed edges 15 and 16 arrange'd to be detachably secured together for instanceby means 'of a button 17 and: button-hole '18 and forming a front opening in v The b'ody '12and le' sections 1 1 are so d1- mentioned; cut and constructed as to fit smoothly and nicely within the correspond I the l'zni'ckerbockem and in substantial surface contact therewith; with edges 5 andl fiadie entt th edges the front'openin'g a the and exact registry with the front opening of the knickerbocker. In order that said lining may be secured in operative combination with said knickerbockers and yet be easily removed therefrom prefer to provide the waist band 13 with one or more button-holes 19 adapted to cooperate with buttons 20 located either directly on the inner surface 0 the waist band 11 of the garment or carrie tabs 11 which depend from said waist-band and S soas to bring 11 at suitable intervals as shown. The lining may be constructed of any material which is usually used for such purposes an when combined with the garment provides a protecting layer located between the knickerbocker and the underwear or person of the wearer. The said lining thus receives all the frictional rubbing of the knickerbocker and prevents the same from exerting a wearing action on the underwear and at the same time may serve to maintain said knickerbocker out of uncomfortable contact with the person of the wearer. he said lining also protects the knickerbocker against interior soiling and if it becomes soiled itself may be readily removed from the garment and separately washed or otherwise cleaned. By fitting the lining to the interior of the knickerbocker a perfectly smooth result is obtained and objectionable creasing and folding is prevented or reduce to a minimum while uncomfortable seams or the like are also avoided. The lining further serves to cover any rough seams who may be included in the garment. I
It will be seen that my improved lining fully protects the knickerbocker throughout 'ling but also said lining.
constructed of ma erials which shrink or the scope of the claim without departing otherwise lose their intended shape if sub from the spirit of my invention. jected to too frequent washings My -im- I claim: provement is easy to manufacture and does The combination of a pair of knickernot add materially to the cost of the arbockers comprising a body and leg sections, ment and may readil Y be incorporated in or an interior Waist-band combined with said combined with the knickerbocken knicke'rbockers, a series of tabs depending en the tabs 11 are included in the ar from said waist-band at intervals, fastening rangement the lining is secured in the gardevices carried by said tabs, a lining comment Without interference with c the means prising a body and leg sections fitted Within whereby such knickerbockers aregenerally the corresponding portions of the knicker attached to other garments or the like for backers and fastening means on said lining supporting purposes. If the knickerbocker adapted to cooperate with the fastening dois provided With side or other openings in vices on said tabs to removably secure said stead of the front opening shown and delining in said knickerbockers.
is accordingly constructed In testimony whereof I have hereunto set as will be readily apparent. my hand.
Various changes in the specific form shown and described may be madewithin HARRY WALOOFF.
