provements in Grloves, of which the following is a specification. v This invention relates to gloves and more particularly to gauntlet gloves.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a shield or reinforcement which protects and prevents wear upon the wrist of the glove or at that point where the gauntlet isconnected to the glove proper.
It is a well known fact that brakemen wear their gloves at the wrist more than at y any other one point and it is the object of this invention to obviate'this difficulty and at the Sametime to provide means for pro*- tecting the connection of the gauntlet with the glove.
Another object of the` invention is the provision of a glovehaving a removable gauntlet.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and i n whichzl Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at the inside of the glove. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the glove looking at the back thereof and with the gauntlet partially attached.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the irregular line 3--3 of Fig. Q.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the glove which is here shown to be a finger glove although it will be well understood that th'e invention may be applied to mitts if desired. The upper portion of the glove has stitched thereto a wrist band 2 which reinforces the upper edge and secured to this wrist band are a plurality of headed studs 3 which coact with the socket members 4 on the gauntlet 5. This gauntlet Icomprises an arcuate segment having parallel side edges and diverging end edges,
' as shown in Fig. 2, the lower side edge being provided with the socket members .4 which coact with the studs on the wrist band to fasten the lower edge of the gauntlet around the Wrist band, as will be well understood. A
.The end edges of the gauntlet are provided with coacting head and socket fas-v teners 6 and 7 which serve to join the ledges of thesegment together in gauntlet form. Thus it will be understood that the gauntlet may be attached to or removed from the glove when desired and as one set of gauntlets will outwear three or four pairs of' Specification of Letters Patent. Paphgnged July 25, 19160 I gloves it can be readily seen that considerable advantage is afforded the consumer.
Stitched to the wrist band upon the inner side of the glove is a flap 8 preferably constructed of heavier material than the glove so as to withstand considerable wearv and yet being' iexible enough to permit freev movement. The free edge of the flap Sis provided with socket members 9 to coact with the stud or head members l0 secured to the gauntlet above the socket members 4 and upon the outside thereof. When this flap is in operative position it overlies the head. and socket fasteners on the inner side of the wrist band and connects to the gauntlet, as shownin Fig. 3, whereby the conne@ tion between the gauntlet and the glove is not fully protected but the flap also servesy to hold thek fasteners which join the gauntlet with'the glove against accidental displacement.
It/will be understood that a glove of this t character maybe Worn with or without the gauntlet, the flap 8 serving in the latter instance as a protector to the wrist, but the primary object is touse the Hap in connection with removable or fixed gauntlets so as to protect the connection between the glove and the gauntlet and to take up Ithe wear at this point.
What is claimed is In combination a glove, a wrist band reinforcing the upper portion thereof, a gauntlet, a plurality of stud members secured upon the outside of said gauntlet at one side thereof, a flap secured upon said wrist band, socket members carried by said flap, said Hap adapted to extend around the inner edge of said gauntlet whereby to cause said socket members to engage Said Stud mem I memo@ bers, a plurality of socket members secured In testimony whereof we al'x our signaupon th? lower edgebof said galntlet, a plu tures in presence of two witnesses.
