1 Claim.

My invention relates to improvements in the` palm structure of workmans gloves.

The main object of my invention is to provide a reenforcing member over-lying the palm of the glove and serving to protect the normal glove palm against wear and to protect the seam between the thumb-back and the glove palm notl only against wear but also against the strains incident to the use of the glove for pulling on ropes or wires extended across the palm.

In accordance with my invention a glove which has been completed in the ordinary way has sewed to it over the entire palm an eXtra piece of material; this material being sewed to the material of the thumb-back on the thumb side'of the seam between the thumb-back material and the palm and being sewed to the palm at the point of juncture at the palm with the lingers. The reenforcing member also over-lying the seam between the back ofthe glove and the palm in the space lying between the thumb and the indeX linger.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which,

The glove tI which my invention has been applied is here illustrated as having a gauntlet 4 sewed to a palm and back 6 and to the back of the thumb 1. In the particular glove to which my invention is applied, the regular palm piece 5 is sewed to the back 6 along the seams 9 and IU. The front of the thumb II is a part of the same piece of material which forms the normal palm of the glove and the fronts of the index and little lingers. The reenforcing piece I2 which constitutes the gist of my invention shaped as shown in Fig. 4, is stitched to the glove palm adjacent the lingers -by a double line of stitching I4. It is stitched to the glove palm along the seam between the palm and the back by a line of stitching I5. It has an extension I6 lying between the thumb and the index linger which is sewed to the back of the glove by a line of stitching I1. It is sewed to the palm and to the gauntlet by a line of stitching I8. It is sewed to the normal glove palm by la double line of stitching I9 and to the thumb-back by a double line of stitching 20. In-order that the thumbback 'I may lie adjacent the palm 5 when the thumb is folded against the palm, the thumbback is made of a separate piece of material. The seam ZI between the normal palm and the normal thumb-back is entirely covered by the reenforcing member I2, the attachment of the reenforcing member I2 to the thumb-back on the thumb side of the seam 2I and the attachment of the reenforcing member I2 adjacent the linger crotches and adjacent the seam between the normal palm and back relieves the seam 2l from the strain which it usually receives when a glove'is used for pulling ropes or wires, particularly where the pull is in the direction across the palm away from the thumb. A tab or extension I6 being attached to the back 6 of the glove and spanning the seam between the palm and the back relieves that seam lying between the index linger and the thumb of strain caused by pulling on ropes or wires in the direction away from the thumb across the palm.

Although my invention is illustrated as applied to gloves having welt seams, it is not necessarily limited to this type of glove, the invention being applicable to any glove in which there is a seam between the glove palm and the thumb-back and which seam is subject to strain as the result extension crossing the seam between the normal palm of the glove and the glo-ve back extending from the thumb to the index linger and attached to the backof the glove, another portion of the reenforcing member being attached to the back of the thumb and overlapping the seam by which the thumb back is attached to the normal palm of the glove, the parts of the reenforcing member remote from the thumb being attached to the normal glove palm adjacent the linger and adjacent the seam between the normal glove palm and the glove back at the point remote from the thumb, a cuff attached to the normal glove palm, one edge of the reenforcing member being attached to the cull and the glove palm along the seam between the cuff and the glove palm, and a reenforcing member for the palm side of the cull stitched to the reenforcing member for the palm, and having a fold which protects the stitching between the palm reenforcing member and the cuff.
