Description

J. G. LAKE.
GLOVE. APPLICATION FILED APR. 23, 1909.
Patented Aug. 3, 1909.
JESSE GEORGE LAKE, OF GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK.
GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 23, 1909.
Patented Aug. 3, 1909.
Serial No. 491,814.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn Gnonen LAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of gloves and relates particularly to the construction of the finger tips of gloves, the essential object of the invention being the provision of a simple and efficient means for so constructing tips of glove fingers as to present a neater and handsomer finish and to relieve the strain from the stitching at the ends of the fingers so as to prevent ripping and permit the wearer to close the hand with less tendency. to bunching or bulging the leather at the end of the linger.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel construction of the glove fingers as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accom anying drawings and then specifically de ed in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which in Figure 1 I have shown plan views showing the forms of the front and back finger strips respectively. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through a glove finger constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in perspective of the glove finger tip complete.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the strip forming the back of the glove finger and B the strip forming the inner face of the finger. It will be noted that the strip A is pro vided at its end with an extension 0. In constructing the glove finger, the front and back strips A and B respectively are stitched at their outer edges to the fourchettes O which form the sides of the fingers in the usual way. The fourchettes have their forward ends brought together and fastened underneath the extension a and, when the parts are stitched together, said projections a 0 erlap the seam between the portions of the fourchettes which are stitched together. It will be noted that, by this construction, the tendency of the glove to rip at the point will be greatly lessened as the usual seam extending directly across the end of the finger is dispensed with and the strain upon the finger tip will be reduced to a minimum.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A glove finger comprising a front and a back strip, the latter being provided with an integral contracted projection at its end, fourchettes stitched to said front and back strips and fastened together at their forward ends underneath said contracted projection, the latter extending over the adjacent edges of the fourchette which are stitched together, the front piece of the glove overlapping said contracted extension.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afl'nc my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JESSE GEORGE LAKE.
