T 0 aZZ whom 2'2.- may concern Be it known that I, JAMES SCHARMAN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Lewisville, in the county of Henry and btate of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hand covering of the type provided with cots for the thumb and fingers and designed for the use of mechanics and others to prevent the soiling of the hands and injury thereto.

The invention provides a glove adapted to be cheaply manufactured of canvas or other suitable textile and which embodies a minimum length of seam and but two parts, one of said parts consisting of a. finger portion and the remaining part containing all the other elements, comprising the body and digit portions.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.

While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.

Figure 1 is a front view of a glove embodying the invention,

Figure 3 is a detail view of the blank from which the glove is formed, the dotted lines showing the folds and the position of the middle finger portion,

Figure 4 is a view of the blank partly folded,

Figure 5 shows the thumb portion of the blank as finally folded and prior to stitching, and

Figure 6 shows more clearly the middle finger portion of the glove.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.

The blank from which the glove is formed comprises front and back portions 1 and 2, respectively. The finger portions are formed along the upper or outer edge of the blank. The thumb portion is disposed at the lower or opposite edge portion of the blank. Opposite edge portions of the blank are inwardly curved as indicated at 3 and 4. The thumb portion comprises parts 5 and 6. The part 5 is disposed wholly within the inner or lower edge of the blank. The part 6 constitutes a lateral extension of the blank and is disposed wholly beyond the lower edge thereof. The part 5 folds upwardly along the dotted line and constitutes the inner side of the thumb cot of the glove. The part 6 tapers in opposite directions from a medial line.

That portion of the part 6 adjacent the blank constitutes the outer side of the thumb cot. The outer portion of the part 6 constitutes a side portion of the glove and is stitched along its opposite edges to the edge portions 8 and 9, respectively, of the blank. The blank is adapted to fold on the dotted line 7. Inwardly extending cuts 8 and 9 separate the part 5 from the body of the blank. The fold line 7 extends from the inner end of the cut 8 to the middle of the tip portion of the little finger section. An end portion of the blank is adapted to fold on the dotted line 10. The edge portions 3 and 1 are stitched together and serve to give proper shape to the glove, whereby an approximate close fit is obtained. The opposite end portion of the blank folds on the dotted line 7. The part 11 forms the forefinger cot. The finger section 12 at one end of the blank coacts with the finger section 12 near the opposite end of the blank to form the cot for the third finger of the hand. The part 14 constitutes the outer side of the cot adapted to receive the middle finger of the hand. The part 14 is stitched to the finger section 13 of the blank, thereby forming the middle finger cot. The part 1 1 is stitched at its in ner end to the main blank opposite the space formed betweenthe inner ends of the finger sections 11 and 12. After the blank has been folded on the dotted line 7, the thumb sec tion is folded on thedotted line 15 thence along the dotted line 16 and the outer portion of the part 6 is stitched along its opposite edges to the edges 8 and 9 of the out separating the part 5 from the main portion of the blank. The other line of present invention may be cheaply mamifac tured and obviates Waste of material and entails a minimum length of stitching, hence may be marketedat a minimum cost'which is desirable in a glove of the character-of the present invention.

What is claimed is: s 1. A glove blank having a thumb portion at one edge, a part of which is disposed Wholly Within the blank and separated therefrom by cuts, and a part projecting out- Wardly from the blank and having opposite edge portions of the outer part stitched to edge portions of the cut separating the the inner and outer parts of the thumb section being stitched along opposite edges. A glove embodying amain blank hav' ing finger sections along one edge and a thumb section at the opposite edge, said thumb section having a portion disposed Wholly within the blank and a portion .projecting outwardly therefrom, the'outer portion of the thumb section being stitched along the edges of the cuts separating the inner part of the thumb section from the main blank, end portions of the blank being folded to: form cots for the third, fore and little fingers, and stitched together, and a secondblank forming the outer sideof the cot for the middle finger, the several parts being stitched substantially as herein specified;
