PATENT Finca EDGAR SUIT, 'OE BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
, GLOVEn SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 594,499, dated November 30, 1897. Application filed Mayl, 1896. Serial No. 591,681. (No model.)
' of the United States, residing at Baltimore,
in the State ofMaryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves 3' and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. f
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gloves, designed primarily for use by bricklayers, stone-masons, and the like; and it has for its objects among others to provide a simple and cheap construction of glove adapted to cover the entire palm of the hand, so as to be a full protection for the bricklayers, stone-masons, and laborers who have to handle large blocks and other similar materials, which will be more comfortable to the Wearer, and which will be more lasting and durable. y
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part vof this specification, and in which-` Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved glove. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of one of the fingers. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the same before the two parts thereof are united.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the palm portion of the glove cut from a single piece of leather or other suitable material and formed at the wrist portion with the strap B, adapted to encircle the wrist and be secured thereabout in any suitable manner. An additional strap O with buckles is provided to hold the same over the back of the hand.
It will be noticed that the fronts of the thumbs and fingers are formed of leather integral with the palm portion A and that the backs of the thumbs and ngers B are made of any suitable material, such as cloth, which is sewed to the leather fronts, the seam being formed of blind stitches-that is to say, the edges of the materials are inturned and stitched on the inside, so as to prevent engagement thereof with the bricks or blocks and thereby prevent their readily wearing out-and at the tips of the thumbs and fingers the leather and cloth are unattached, thus avoiding threads at and around the tips, and also leaving an opening F for ventilation, thus preventing sweating and consequent soreness of the fingers. The fronts of the fingers can be wider toward the tips, if desired, so as to make the leather come around on the backs of the ngers. The palm portion is notched at G, adjacent to the base of the fingers, so as to allow the same to fit better and closer and without liability of cramping the hand.
Modifications in details may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- As an article of manufacture, a glove comprising a palm portion formed from a single piece of material having at the wrist portion a strap to encircle the wrist, and a strap at substantially the mid-length of the palm portion to pass over the back of the hand, and finger portions comprising front portions integral with the palm portion and back portions 'secured to said front finger portions at the respective side edges, leaving the tip portions unattached, the said palm portion being notched adjacent to the junction of the fingers therewith.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ED GAR SUIT.
