SKIRT-SUPPORTER AND PLAGKET-FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonen K. OAKLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane Bridge, in the county of Spokane, State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt- Supporters and Placket-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to combined placket closures and skirt supporters, and has for its object the provision of a simple, eflicient and inexpensive device of this character that may be quickly and easily manipulated to securely close the placket opening of a skirt or the like, and which is adapted for association in such manner with a waist as to retain the skirt in position relatively thereto.

lVith the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevational view of a dress placket and a waist, with the invention associated therewith. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. l, and Fig. 4C is a perspective View of the invention detached.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown a dress skirt A including the usual placket opening 10, and a waist B, the latter having formed in the band thereof a pair of spaced pockets 11, these pockets opening toward each other and being adapted for association with the invention in a manner to be subsequently explained.

In describing the invention in detail, the same comprises an elongated strip 12 of resilient material, such as steel, whalebone or the like, that may be provided as preferred, either with the perforations 18 shown or covered with suitable cloth, to permit of its being securely stitched to one side edge of the placket opening 10. Formed adj acent the upper end otthis strip 12 is a transversely. disposed slot 14, and from a point above this slot the strip is turned back upon itself as at 15 and in spaced relation to the body thereof. Secured in similar manner to the other side edge of the placket opening 10, is a second strip 16, likewise of resilient material, this strip having its lower end pivoted as at 17 to the corresponding end of the strip 12 and terminating at its free end in a reduced and tapered portion 18 for insertion within the slot 1 1 of the first mentioned strip. Arranged transversely of the turned back portion .15 and secured thereto intermediate its ends by rivets 19 or other similar means, is a third resilient strip 20,

' this latter strip being bowed inwardly from the strip 12 longitudinally of its length to conform to the body of the wearer at the waist, and having its ends 21 extended to each side of the turned back portion for insertion within the pockets 11 above described. In practice, to close the placket opening 10, the strip 16 is moved to position over the strip 12 and is sprung sufiiciently to permit of its tapered end 18 being readily inserted through the slot 14. The placket being thus securely closed, to retain the skirt in position relatively to the waist, the ends 21 of the strip 20, are pressed inwardly by the fingers to bring their terminals into position to engage in the openings of the pockets 10, releasing of the strip permitting of same returning to its normal shape with the ends 21 springing into the pockets in a manner that is readily apparent. It may further be added that by constructing the device as above explained, the turned back portion 15 not only provides a mounting for the strip 20, but likewise serves as a guard for the tapered end of the strip 16 to prevent the same from tearing the garments or inconveniencing the wearer in any way.
