JOHN J. MILES AND maomn A. WILLIAMS, or comps CHRISTI, TEXAS.
' snmr.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 22, 1915.
Application filed November 14, 1913. Serial No. 801,015.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN J. Mums and JEROME A. WILLIAMS, citizens of the United States, residing at Corpus Christi, in the county of Neuces and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in shirts, and the object is to provide ashirt which is capable of being reversed so that both sides of the bosom can be used. For instance, if the one side should become soiled, the other side could be used.
The shirt consists of the bosoms, collar band, and shoulder pieces, the arms, back, and tail being omitted.
The invention consists of still other novel fully described and pointed out in the claim. In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation; Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view through the collar band; and Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view of the strap which connects the front and back of the shirt together beneath the arms of the wearer.
A represents the bosom of the shirt, which is made in two pieces, and which is commonly known as a coat shirt, the bosom being fastened together by means of studs through buttonholes 1, 1. Connected to the bosom is 'a neck band B. The neck band and bosom are preferably made so that the outer faces of linen, on both sides of the bosom and collar or neck band are of the same quality. The neck band is shown in the detail view Fig. 3, constructed of fourply materi Connected to the bosom and collar ban is a back portion 3. Front strips or pieces 4 are connected to the bosom, and the lower ends of the front straps and back portion are provided with straps 6, 6, one of the straps being provided with a buckle 7, whereby the other strap can be connected thereto for fastening the back and front straps together. The strap which is connected to the back portion passes through two buttonholes or slots 8, 8, so that the buckle is prevented from coming in contact with the undergarment of the wearer. Armholes 10, 10 are formed between the back straps and front straps, and by means of the strap, this garment can be fastened about the body of the wearer as tightly as desired. With a shirt of this character, the bosom will not move from side to side, or become displaced, as would be the case with the usual or ordinary form of dickey, because the back portion is provided, which gives sufficient stability or causes the shirt to fit the body of the wearer sufiiciently so that it will remain in position. If necessary, the tab 11 connected to the bosom can be fastened to the drawers or trousers of the wearer, so that it will remain rigid. The collar band B, as stated before, is made of four-ply material, and the outer portions are provided with pockets 12 and buttonholes 13, so that a pocket and buttonhole is always provided for the collar.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that with a shirt provided with a bosom which has the same material on both sides thereof, both sides can be laundried, so that it can be easily reversed when one side becomes soiled, the collar band also being specially constructed, permits of its being reversed so that the buttonhole is also provided for the rear collar button without any possibility of the button coming in contact with the neck of the wearer. A garment of this character can be used under a great many conditions and circumstances, such as for instance, by waiters. If, in case of an accident, the garment should become soiled, the garment could be removed and'reversed, or another substituted. Then again, the garment can be used as a dress shirt or for any pur ose where a dress shirt is used.
aving fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a shirt, the combination with a collar band having a shirt bosom connected thereto, said collar band and shirt bosom adapted to be reversed, said collar band provided thereof for the reception of the rear collar button, a back Eortion connected to the collar band and osom extending below the shoulders of the wearer, front straps connected to the shirt bosom, and means for connectin straps adqustably together thereby forming armholes.
the back portion and front.
E meeeee In testimony whereof we our signatures, in the presence of two wltnesses.
