一片5/8英吋x 5/8英吋x 3-1/2英吋的夾板係被置入於燒杯中,且部分浸入於實施例IV所製備的保存組成物中。將該燒杯蓋著達大約5分鐘。5分鐘後,移開該片夾板並准予空氣乾燥。餘留在該燒杯內之保存組成物的體積已被降低2-3 ml或約10%。在該夾板的表面上並沒有可見的白色沈澱物。自該夾板的經處理及未經處理兩部分處移開表面樣品以為了在顯微鏡下評估。在該等樣品之間有可觀察到的差異。該經處理的夾板看來好像已塗覆有玻璃或白色棉塗料。心材與邊材的外觀也有差異。該未經處理夾板的小室看來是空的,而經處理木材的小室看來塗覆有玻璃。當添加數滴甲醇至該等夾板樣品時,該經處理樣品會成珠且看似有膠在該樣品表面上。反之,逕流的水會輕易地被未經處理的夾板所吸收。一片此類夾板(1/2英吋x 1/2英吋x 3/4英吋)係被置於一100 ml的燒杯中,該燒杯含有10 ml的水且覆蓋有表玻璃。該樣品係被准予靜置不受干擾達24小時,接著將該夾板從該水中移開。來自該浸析實驗之水的FTIR顯示出一微小的峰值於800cm-1。該峰值並未如矽烷參考峰值般強烈清晰。該經處理夾板在水中浸泡達24小時後並未顯示出有矽烷在表面上的跡象。然而,水的確會輕易地被該經處理夾板的各側所排斥。經切開的表面亦會排斥水,即使該經切開的表面從未直接接觸保存組成物。該經切開的表面係隔該保存組成物有1/2英吋至3/4英吋。

相較於只淨施用甲基三氯矽烷,諸如THF之溶劑的使用已被觀察到有數種好處,包括:(1)藉淨甲基三氯矽烷溶液的稀釋(如,以THF稀釋)而使成本降低;(2)未觀察到放熱反應的證據;(3)未有白色殘留物遺留在經處理對象材料的表面上;(4)硼與矽烷係輕易地滲透進入並擴散穿過對象材料且以一步驟傳遞;(5)於使用前僅需短暫的乾燥時間或無需乾燥時間;(6)相較於CCA加工,週期處理時間係大大地降低;(7)未觀察到夾板的脫層或劣化;(8)使經處理的對象材料能防水;(9)使經處理的對象材料能抗蟲(憑藉著硼的存在);(10)使經處理的對象材料能抗火(憑藉著硼的存在);及(11)經處理的對象材料能抗浸析。

為了測定本發明保存組成物之硼的滲透及保留特性,係進行實施例VI所述之實驗,如下:

Claims (6)
- 一種保存材料的方法,其包含:提供一種保存組成物,該保存組成物係由甲基三氯矽烷及戊烷的溶液所組成;及施用該保存組成物至該材料,及允許該材料乾燥。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該材料係新聞紙。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該材料係以紙塗覆之充聚胺甲酸酯絕緣體。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該材料係用於塗覆充聚胺甲酸酯絕緣體之紙。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該材料係乾壁或石磚。
- 一種保存組成物,其係由甲基三氯矽烷及戊烷的溶液所組成。
