Bir mahfaza kazanı (3) bir reaktör basınç kazanını (2) kapatan bir iç kaplamaya (17) sahiptir ve aynı zamanda, iç kaplamanın (17) yatay dış periferisini kapatan bir gaza dayanıklı boşluk olan bir dış kuyuyu (19) oluşturan bir dış kaplamaya (18) sahiptir. İç kaplama (17), reaktör basınç kazanının (2) yatay periferisini çevreleyen bir birinci silindirik yan duvar (4a), reaktör basınç kazanının (2) üst kısmını kapatan bir mahfaza kazanı başlığı (6) ve birinci silindirik yan duvarın (4a) üst ucu ile mahfaza kazanı başlığı (6) periferisini gaza dayanıklı bir şekilde bağlayan bir birinci üst plağa (5a) sahiptir. Dış kaplama (18), birinci silindirik yan duvarın (4a) dış periferisini çevreleyen ikinci bir silindirik yan duvara (4b) sahiptir ve aynı zamanda, birinci silindirik yan duvar (4a) ile ikinci silindirik yan duvarın (4b) üst ucunun etrafını gaza dayanıklı bir şekilde bağlayan ikinci bir plağa (5b) sahiptir.
