Abstract

Se da a conocer un procedimiento para la produccion de cobre que comprende la refinacion electrolitica de cobre en una celda electrolitica, en donde o la diferencia de voltaje sobre la celda se mantiene a menos de 1.6 voltios, el anodo comprende como maximo 5 98.0% en peso de cobre y menos de 1.00% en peso de hierro, o la densidad de corriente a traves de la celda es de al menos 180 A/m2 de superficie del catodo, o el electrolito se elimina de la celda durante la operacion a una tasa de renovacion promedio de 30-1900% por hora, mediante el desbordamiento de una primera corriente de electrolito sobre una pared de la celda, y o se introduce un gas en la celda y se burbujea a traves del electrolito entre el anodo y el catodo; se describe ademas una composicion liquida de metal fundido adecuada para la refinacion electrolitica de anodos de cobre que comprende al menos 90.10% en peso y como maximo 97% en peso de cobre, al menos 0.1% en peso de niquel, al menos 0.0001% en peso y menos de 1.00% en peso de hierro, y 250-3000 ppm en peso de oxigeno.
