Abstract

Det omtales en kontinuerlig fremgangsmåte for behandling av en brukt vandig kaustisk materialstrøm som anvendes til å skrubbe en hydrokarbon-prosess-strøm for å fjerne oksiderbare svovelholdige forbindelser innbefattende: at en oksiderende hypoklorsyrestrøm dannet fra en vandig brine-løsning blandes med den vandige kaustiske materialstrøm for å danne en reaktiv blandet matestrøm, og den reaktive blandete matestrøm kontaktes med minst en katalysator for å fremme oksidasjonen av svovelholdige forbindelser og nøytralisere natriumhydroksid, og det gjenvinnes en nøytral behandlet produktstrøm som omfatter vandig natriumsulfat, natriumkarbonat og natriumklorid som er luktfri, ikke-toksisk og miljøvennlig akseptabel for avledning til sjø eller til et konvensj onelt kloakkbehandlingssystem. Fortrinnsvis produseres hypoklorsyren ved hjelp av en elektrolysator som også produserer en hydrogenstrøm som ledes til 1) PEM-brenselcelle for å generere i det minste en andel av det elektriske kraftbehov til elektrolysatoren, og 2) vann som kombineres med fersk natriumhydroksid fra elektrolysatoren for å danne en fersk kaustisk strøm for anvendelse til å skrubbe hydrokarbonprosess-strømmen.
