Abstract
Continuous films of cellulose are made from a viscose of an advanced degree of ripeness, as produced by an extension of the maturing period, such that coagulation occurs in a common salt solution of 3.5 per cent strength or less, for example, of 2 per cent strength. Suitable baths for precipitating the film contain 15-17 per cent ammonium sulphate, 10 per cent sodium sulphate, and 5 per cent alkali sulphides, or 10 per cent sulphuric acid and 10 per cent sodium sulphate. Operating with a viscose of this ripeness, the films produced are transparent, homogeneous, without striae, and show faultless edges.
