Abstract

Artificial silk structures are delustred by treating in two separate baths with the solution of a metal hydroxide and with the solution of a metal salt which are such that by chemical interaction on the filament form a water insoluble metal salt and a water-repelling metal hydroxide. A protective colloid such as glue may be added to one or both of these baths. By way of example, cuprammonium artificial silk is treated firstly with a solution of barium hydroxide, centrifuged, and then treated with a solution of aluminium sulphate containing an addition of glue. Zinc sulphate may replace the alumunium sulphate.
