Abstract

There is disclosed a method for manufacturing a magnetic-disk substrate, comprising: polishing both main surfaces of a substrate (G) by sandwiching the substrate with a pair of polishing pads (20), supplying a slurry containing polishing abrasive particles between the polishing pads (20) and the substrate (G), and sliding the polishing pads (20) and the substrate relative to each other. The polishing pads (20) respectively have a resin foam layer having a plurality of openings in a surface and the resin foam layer is made of polyurethane foam. There is also disclosed a polishing pad (20) to be used in a polishing process for polishing a surface of a substrate (G). FIG. 4
