Abstract

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a magnetic-disk glass substrate that can reduce a period of time during which no grinding is performed in grinding using fixed abrasive particles, enables the roughness of a processed surface to be suppressed to a low level without reducing a processing speed, and can manufacture a high-quality glass substrate (10). The present invention includes grinding processing for grinding a main surface of a glass substrate (10) using a lubricant and a surface plate having a grinding surface provided with fixed abrasive particles including diamond particles (5). The main surface of the glass substrate (10) is a mirror surface. The grinding processing has a first stage in which the surface of the glass substrate (10) is roughened with a higher load than a load applied in grinding and a second stage in which the surface of the glass substrate (10) is ground with a lower load than a load applied in the first stage. The first stage and the second stage are performed using the same device. FIG. 3
