Abstract
Se describe un latón alfa beta maquinable (que se puede trabajar en máquina) que tiene reducido contenido de plomo. La aleación contiene bismuto para mejorar la maquinabilidad. Ya sea una porción del zinc se reemplaza con aluminio, silicio o estaño, o una porción del cobre se reemplaza con hierro, níquel o manganeso. La cantidad de zinc y, en algunas modalidades sustituto de zinc, es aquella efectiva para proveer una cantidad suficiente de la fase beta, para permitir el trabajo en caliente a temperaturas mayores que 600°C (Figura 2 de los dibujos).
