Abstract

Un método para descontaminar una superficie metálica expuesta a un líquido o gas radioactivo durante el funcionamiento de una instalación nuclear comprende un paso de oxidación donde una capa de óxido de metal sobre la superficie metálica entra en contacto con una solución de oxidación acuosa que comprende un oxidante de permanganato para convertir cromo en un compuesto de Cr(VI) y disolver el compuesto de Cr(VI) en la solución de oxidación; y un primer paso de limpieza donde la solución de oxidación que contiene el compuesto de Cr(VI) pasa directamente por un material de intercambio de aniones y el compuesto de Cr(VI) se inmoviliza sobre el material de intercambio de aniones. El método proporciona ahorros sustanciales de desechos radioactivos y produce desechos libres de quelatos.
