Abstract

La invención se refiere a un proceso para la recuperación de metales, tales como Ni y Co, a partir de un material de partida que contiene Li. En particular, este proceso se refiere a la recuperación de metales M a partir de un material de partida que contiene Li, en donde M comprende Ni y Co, que comprende las etapas de: Etapa 1: proporcionar dicho material de partida, que comprende baterías de iones de litio o sus productos derivados; Etapa 2: retirar el Li en una cantidad superior al máximo del (1) 30 % del Li presente en dicho material de partida y (2) el porcentaje del Li presente en dicho material de partida determinado para obtener una relación de Li:M de menos de 0,70 en una etapa posterior de lixiviación ácida; Etapa 3: lixiviar posteriormente usando cantidades relativas del producto agotado en Li y un ácido mineral, obteniendo, de este modo, una solución que lleva Ni y Co; y Etapa 4: cristalización de Ni, Co y, opcionalmente, Mn. Debido al menor consumo de reactivos y a una mayor concentración de Ni y/o Co durante el procesamiento hidrometalúrgico, la invención es un proceso eficaz y económico para la producción de cristales adecuados para la producción de material de batería.
