Abstract

Un objeto de la invención es obtener una fibra de carbono que presente una excelente dispersabilidad en un proceso para moldearla y procesarla en un material compuesto reforzado con fibra de carbono o en un artículo moldeado obtenido finalmente. La fibra de carbono de acuerdo con la presente invención es una que incluye fibras individuales que tienen longitudes de 10 cm o menos, en donde el eje de fibra de cada fibra tiene un ancho de ondulación de 2.5 µm o más cuando una parte de la misma entre dos puntos con una distancia en línea recta de 1 mm se observa desde una dirección lateral, y el coeficiente de variación en el ancho de ondulación es de 100% o menos. Dicha fibra de carbono se produce mediante un método que incluye pasos para llevar a cabo la estabilización de un haz de fibras precursoras para fibra de carbono a base de poliacrilonitrilo, pre-carbonización de la misma y carbonización de la misma llevadas a cabo en este orden, seguidas de corte del haz de fibra de carbono resultante, que está en la forma de fibras continuas, en donde el número de torsiones del haz de fibras es de 16 vueltas/m o más en el paso de carbonización, o el ángulo de torsión de la superficie del haz de fibras siendo de 2.0° o más.
