Abstract

La invención se refiere a mechas de fibra de vidrio empalmadas y a sistemas y a procedimientos para empalmar mechas de fibra de vidrio. En una realización, un procedimiento para unir mechas de fibra de vidrio comprende solapar un extremo de entrada de una primera mecha con un extremo de salida de una segunda mecha para crear una región solapada; empalmar neumáticamente una parte de la región solapada para formar una región empalmada; y aplicar un adhesivo a la región empalmada. En una realización, una mecha de fibra de vidrio empalmada comprende una región empalmada que comprende una pluralidad de fibras de vidrio de un extremo de entrada de una primera mecha entrelazadas con una pluralidad de fibras de vidrio de un extremo de salida de una segunda mecha, en la que la región empalmada es de entre aproximadamente 1 y 20 centímetros de longitud y tiene una resistencia a la tracción entre aproximadamente un 50 y un 150 % de la primera mecha antes de empalmar.
