Abstract

El producto de decabromodifeniletano de alta pureza derivado de reacción se prepara mediante la alimentación de (i) difeniletano o (ii) difeniletano parcialmente bromado con un número promedio de bromo menor a aproximadamente dos o (iii) ambos, (i) y (ii), en los confines líquidos de una mezcla de reacción. La mezcla de reacción (a) está formada por componentes formados por bromo líquido en exceso y catalizador ácido de Lewis a base de bromo para el bromado y (b) se mantiene a una o más temperaturas elevadas de reacción de aproximadamente 45ºC a 90ºC, y al menos cuando es necesario elevar la presión para mantener el estado líquido de la mezcla de reacción a las temperaturas utilizadas, la mezcla de reacción se mantiene a la presión elevada, mientras ocurre el ar-bromado. La alimentación se lleva a cabo a una velocidad lo suficientemente lenta para formar producto de decabromodifeniletano de alta pureza derivado de reacción, el cual es un pirorretardante eficaz.
