Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a metodo para producir un cuerpo autoportante, caracterizado porque comprende: (a) seleccionar un metal madre, (b) calentar dicho metal madre en una atmosfera sustancialmente inerte hasta una temperatura por arriba de su punto de fusión a efectos de formar un cuerpo de metal fundido, y poner en contacto dicho cuerpo de metal madre fundido con una masa que incluye carburo de boro, (c) mantener dicha temperatura durante un periodo de tiempo suficiente para permitir la infiltración del metal madre fundido dentro de dicha masa y para permitir la reacción del metal madre fundido con dicho carburo de boro, a efectos de formar uno o más compuestos que contienen boro, y (d) continuar dicha infiltración y dicha reacción durante un período de tiempo suficiente para producir dicho cuerpo autoportante que comprende uno o más compuestos que contienen metal madre y boro.
