Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a mejoras en un proceso para la producción de un hilo de tereftalato de polietileno estirado, que se transforma en una cuerda para llantas de alta tenacidad y estabilidad dimensional, caracterizada porque comprenden: extruir un tereftalato de polietileno fundido, hilable en caliente, que tiene una viscosidad intrínseca de 0.8 o mayor por un orificio de extrusión configurado que tiene una pluralidad de aberturas para formar un hilo hilado en fusión; solidificar el hilo hilado en forma gradual al pasarlo por una zona de solidificación que comprende una zona de enfriamiento retardado y una zona de enfriamiento retardado y una zona de enfriamiento contigua a la zona de enfriamiento y una zona de enfriamiento retardado en donde se enfría y solidifica el hilo con rapidez en una atmósfera de aire insuflado; extraer el hilo solidificado a una velocidad suficiente para formar un hilo cristalino de orientación parcial con una cristalinidad entre 3 y 15 por ciento y una elevación de punto de fusión de 2 a 10 grados C; estirar el hilo en caliente a una relación de estiraje total entre 1.5:1 y 2.5:1.
