Abstract

본 발명은 액정표시소자에 관한 것으로, 특히 시야각이 넓은 액정표시소자에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 액정표시소자는 ; 복수의 표시화소전극들이 매트릭스 형태로 각각 배치되고, 서로 대향하는 한쌍의 기판 ; 상기 한쌍의 기판 사이에 배치된 액정층 , 및 적어도 일방의 기판의 상기 액정층에 대향하는 표면에 형성되고, 상기 액정층중의 액정분자의 배향상태를 제어하는 배향층 ; 을 구비하고 ; 상기 배향층은 본질적으로 폴리머 앨로이로 구성된다. 액정층중의 폴리머 앨로이가 상분리 구조를 갖기 때문에, 액정층중에 규칙적으로 형성된 부분을 얻을 수 있고, 이 부분의 액정분자들은 방사상, 이축성 또는 다축성으로 배향되며 이 부분의 크기를 제어할 수 있다. 그결과, 상하좌우 방향으로의 콘트라스트의 시각의존성에 의해 생길 수 있는 콘트라스트의 변화, 착색현상, 표시화상의 반전현상 등의 문제를 해소하여, 실질적으로 표시의 불균일이 거의 없는 높은 콘트라스트를 달성할 수 있다.

제2도는 액정표시소자(11)의 기판(16, 17)상의 배향막(20, 21)의 상분리 구조의 상태를 나타낸 도면.

Claims (14)

  1. 복수의 표시화소전극들이 매트릭스 형태로 각각 배치되고, 서로 대향하는 한쌍의 기판 , 상기 한쌍의 기판 사이에 배치된 액정층 , 및 적어도 일방의 기판의 상기 액정층에 대향하는 표면에 형성되고, 상기 액정층중의 액정분자의 배향상태를 제어하는 배향층 ; 을 구비하고, 상기 배향층이 본질적으로 폴리머 앨로이로 구성되는 액정표시소자.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 폴리머 앨로이가 상분리 구조를 갖고, 상기 액정분자를 직선 배향, 방사상 배향 및 2축성 배향 및 다축성 배향중의 적어도 하나를 갖도록 제어하는 부분이 복수의 표시소자화소 각각에 대응되게 형성되는 액정표시소자.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 성가 배향층이 비상용성(非相溶性 ; incompatible)의 폴리머블렌드를 이용해 얻어진 마크로-상분리 구조를 갖는 유기막인 액정표시소자.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 배향층이 비상용성의 블록 사슬을 포함한 블록 공중합체를 이용해 얻어진 미크로-상분리 구조를 갖는 유기막인 액정표시소자.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 배향층이 비상용성의 모노머에 의해 그라프트화 된 그라프트 공중합체를 이용해 얻어진 미크로-상분리 구조를 갖는 유기막인 액정표시소자.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 배향층이 비상용계의 고분자 쌍을 포함한 상호관입 고분자망을 이용해 얻어진 미크로-상분리 구조를 갖는 유기막인 액정표시소자.
  7. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 상분리 구조의 크기가 10nm이상 20㎛이하인 액정표시소자.
  8. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 마크로-상분리 구조의 크기가 50nm 이상 200㎛ 이하인 액정표시소자.
  9. 제4항에 있어서, 상기 미크로-상분리 구조의 크기가 10nm 이상 l㎛ 이하인 액정표시소자.
  10. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 폴리머 앨로이가 폴리아미드(PA)계 앨로이, 폴리이미드(PI)계 앨로이, 폴리올레핀(PO)계 엘로이, 폴리스티렌(PS)계 앨로이, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET)계 앨로이, 폴리비닐 클로라이드(PVC)계 앨로이, 폴리메틸 메타크릴레이트(PMMA)계 앨로이, 폴리아세탈계 앨로이, 폴리카르보네이트(PC)계 앨로이, 폴리페닐렌 에테르(PPE)계 앨로이, 폴리페닐렌 술피드(PPS)계 앨로이, 폴리아릴렌 에테르케톤(PAEK)계 앨로이, 및 비정질 폴리아릴레이트(PAr)계 앨로이로 된 군에서 선택되는 액정표시소자,
  11. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층이 키랄 도펀트를 포함하지 않은 네마틱 액정재료로 구성되는 액정표시소자.
  12. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층이 키랄 도펀트를 첨가한 네마틱 액정으로 구성되는 액정표시소자.
  13. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정층이 2색성 색소를 함유하는 액정표시소자.
  14. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 한쌍의 기판중이 한 기판상에 능동 스위칭소자가 형성되고, 이 스위칭소자가 액티브 구동되는 액정표시소자.
