제2도는 본 발명의 엔진 배기 시스템 내에서 두개의 촉매 변환기(cnoverter)장치에 의해 달성되는 상대온도와 시스템의 바람직한 작동시 시스템을 통한 배기 가스의 운송정도를 시간의 함수로서 나타낸 도표이며,
제3도(a)는 본 발명의 제올라이트 함유 장치의 실험방법을 개략적으로 도시한 것이고, 제3도(b)는 제3도(a)에 도시된 실험에 따라 엔진 시동후 시간에 따른 함수로서 제올라이트함유 장치를 입출하는 엔진 배기 가스 흐름 중의 탄화수소 함량을 나타내는 그래프이다.

Claims (11)

  1. 탄화수소 함유 엔진 배기 가스내의 탄화수소를 물과 이산화탄소로 실제적으로 변환시키며, 소등(light-off)온도를 갖는 1차 촉매 변환기 장치, (a) 엔진 배기 가스로 부터 탄화수소를 흡착시킬 수 있고, 탈착온도로 가열되었을때 흡착된 탄화수소를 탈착시킬 수 있는 분자상 여과장치와, (b) 탄화수소를 물과 이산화탄소로 변환시키는 촉매작용을 하고, 소등(light-off)온도를 갖는 적어도 하나의 촉매로 성어되는 것을 특징으로 하고, 1차 촉매변환기 장치보다 엔진으로 부터 멀리 떨어져 위치하고 있는 2차 촉매 변환기 장치와, 엔진 배기 시스템 내에서 엔진 배기 가스를 선택적으로 운송하되 (ⅰ) 1차 촉매 변환기 장치가 소등온도로 되기전의 1차시간 동안은 1차 촉매 변환장치를 통하여 실제적으로 모든 엔진 배기가스를 운송한 다음, 2차 촉매 변환기 장치를 통하여 모든 엔진배기 가스를 운송하고, (ⅱ) 1차 촉매 변환기 장치가 소등온도로 가열되지만 분자상 여과장치가 탈착온도로 상승되기 전인 2차시간 동안 2차촉매 변환기로 1차 촉매 변환기로부터 방출된 배기가스의 적어도 일부분을 운송시키며, (ⅲ) 분자상 여과장치가 탈착온도로 상승된 3차 시간 동안은 (a) 1차 촉매 변환기로부터 방출된 배기가스의 일부분을 2차 촉매 전환기 장치로 이송한 다음, 2차 촉매 변환기 장치로부터 배출된 실제적으로 모든 배기가스를 엔진 또는 1차 촉매 변환기 장치로 역이송시키고, (b) 1차 촉매 변환기 장치로 부터 배출된 나머지의 배기가스를 2차 촉매 변환기 장치를 우회하여 운송하는 하나 이상의 운송장치로 구성됨을 특징으로 하는 엔진으로 부터 배출되는 배기 가스내의 탄화수소를 변환시키기 위한 배기 가스템.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 분자상 여과 장치는 높은 실리카 함유 결정형 제올라이트와 적어도 하나의 귀금속을 포함하는 촉매로 구성됨을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  3. 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서, 2차 촉매 변환기 장치는 제올라이트와 귀금속 촉매가 코팅되었거나 함입된 세라믹 기질을 포함함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  4. 제2항 또는 제3항에 있어서, 제올라이트는 실리카라이트, ZSM-5, ZSM-8, ZSM-11, ZSM-12와 모르디나이트(mordenite)로 구성되는 군으로 부터 선택됨을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  5. 제1항 내지 제4항중 어느 한항에 있어서, 세라믹 기질을 벌집형 입을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템
  6. 제1항 내지 제5항중 어느 한항에 있어서, 운송장치는 적어도 하나의 온도 조절장치에 의해 조절되는 밸브를 포함하되, 상기3차 시간동안 운송장치는 2차 변환기 장치로 부터 배출된 배기가스를 1차 변환기 장치로 역운송시키는 기능을 행함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 2차 시간동안에 운송장치는 1차 촉매 변환기 장치로부터 배출된 일부의 배기가스를 2차 촉매 변환기 장치로 우회시키는 기능을 행함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  8. 제6항 또는 제7항에 있어서, 상기 2차 시간 동안에 운송장치는 2차 촉매 변환기 장치로 부터 배출된 배기가스의 일부를 1차 촉매 변환기 장치로 순환시키는 기능을 행함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  9. 제1항 내지 제9항중 어느 한항에 있어서, 실제적으로 모든 탄화수소가 분자상 여과 장치로 탈착되며 및/또는 2차 촉매 변환기 장치 내의 귀금속이 그의 소등(light-off)온도로 상승될때 까지 운송장치는 3차시간의 기능을 계속하며 행함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 운송장치는 2차 촉매 변환기 장치가 소등온도에 이른 후인 4차시간동안 실제적으로 모든 엔진 배기가스를 1차 촉매 변환기 장치를 통과시키고 2차 촉매 변환기 장치를 통과시킨 다음, 시스템으로 부터 대기로 방출되도록 하는 기능을 행함을 특징으로 하는 배기 시스템.
  11. (ⅰ) 1차 촉매 변환기 장치가 소등온도로 되기전의 1차시간 동안은 1차 촉매 변환장치를 통하여 실제적으로 모든 엔진 배기가스를 운송한 다음, 2차 촉매 변환기 장치를 통하여 모든 엔진 배기 가스를 운송하고, (ⅱ) 1차 촉매 변환기 장치가 소등온도로 가열되지만 분자상 여과장치가 탈착온도로 상승되기 전인 2차시간 동안 2차 촉매변환기로 1차 촉매 변환기로 부터 방출된 배기가스의 적어도 일부분을 운송시키며,(ⅲ) 분자상 여과장치가 탈착온도로 상승된 3차 시간 동안은 (a)1차 촉매 변환기로 부터 방출된 배기가스의 일부분을 2차 촉매 변환기 장치로 이송한 다음, 2차 촉매 변환기 장치로 부터 배출된 실제적으로 모든 배기가스를 엔진 또는 1차 촉매 변환기 장치로 역이송시키고, (b)1차 촉매 변환기 장치로 부터 배출된 나머지의 배기가스를 2차 촉매 변환기 장치를 우회하여 운송하기 위하여, 배기가스를 선택적으로 운송함을 특징으로 하고 제1항 내지 제10항중 어느 한항의 시스템을 이용하여 탄화수소 함유 배기가스를 생성하는 내연기관으로 부터 탄화수소 방출을 조절하는 방법.
