Abstract
1334243 Zeolite ZSM-8 MOBIL OIL CORP 9 Sept 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 43164/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] A crystalline zeolite having an X-ray diffraction pattern substantially as in Table 1 (not illustrated), the most intense bands of which are at 11À1. 10À0 and 3À85 Š, is prepared by forming a reaction solution having a molar constitution in terms of the following oxides and hydroxide SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 10:200; Na 2 O/(TEA)OH = 0À05 : 0À20; (TEA)OH : SiO 2 = 0À08 : 1À0; H 2 O/(TEA)OH = 80 : 200 (TEA = tetraethylammonium group) and reacting until crystals of said zeolite are formed. The reaction may take from 6 hours to 60 days. The product zeolite may be treated by (a) calcinating, e.g. at 500- 1500‹ F. for 1-48 hours, (b) steam treatment at up to 1500‹ F., (c) ion exchange to replace cations therein by, e.g. H, NH 4 <SP>+</SP>, metal cations, e.g. rare earth metal cations, or mixtures thereof or by combinations of such treatments.
