Abstract

1514417 High silica: alumina zeolites W R GRACE & CO 23 April 1976 [24 April 1975, 16 May 1975] 16644/76 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] A faujasitic zeolite with SiO 2 :Al 2 O 3 3À5:1 to 6:1 is ion-exchanged to remove alkali metal cations, calcined to stabilize, e.g. at 1000‹C. or higher for 0À1-10 hours, is treated with dilute mineral acid to remove at least 15% Al and produce an SiO 2 :Al 2 O 3 ratio of above 7:1 and up to 20:1, washed, dried and recovered. Ion exchange may be effected by a solution containing ammonium ions with or without further exchange by a solution of rare earth metal ions. The acid-treated material may be further ion-exchanged to increase the content of rare earth metal or magnesium ions and blended with inorganic oxides to form catalysts (see Div. B1).
