Abstract

1355060 A nickel-magnesium zeolite W R GRACE & CO 23 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59916/71 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] A synthetic faujasite has a silica : alumina ratio of at least 3 : 1, nickel and magnesium ions and a sodium cation content of less than 4% and can be prepared by subjecting a Z-14 US type zeolite to ion exchange with a mixture of nickel and magnesium cations in aqueous soln. of pH 2 to 7 and then calcining the ion exchanged zeolite at a temperature in the range 750‹ to 1650‹ F. The Z-14 US zeolite has itself a silica : alumina ratio of greater than 3 : 1 and an Na 2 O content of less than 4%. The modified zeolite is advantageously used in admixture, with a calcined rare earth metal exchanged faujasite as a cat-cracking catalyst comprising a siliceous matrix and 5-20% by weight of the admixture or zeolite.
