1334828 Ion-exchange treatment of glass SAINT-GOBAIN 29 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 9352/72 Heading C1M A process for producing strengthened glass by ion exchange comprises bringing into contact with a molten medium containing potassium ions a glass having the following ingredients in percentages by weight: 65-76 SiO 2 , 0-4 B 2 O 3 , 1À5-5 Al 2 O 3 , 4-8 MgO, 0-4À5 CaO, 10-18 Na 2 O, 1-7À5 K 2 O, these ingredients representing at least 96% by weight of the glass with the ratio by weight of CaO to CaO + MgO ranging from 0 to 0À45 and the ratio by weight of K 2 O to Na 2 O + K 2 O ranging up to 0À35. The molten potassium salt used may be potassium nitrate, and the treatment may be carried out at 420-475‹ C.
