Claims (10)

  1. 하기 일반식 (Ⅰ)의 비페닐릴에탄.
    상기식에서 R1및 R2는 각각 서로 독립적으로, 탄소원자 12개 이하를 갖는 알킬, 알케닐 또는 옥사알킬이고, R1및 R2라디칼중의 하나는 양자택일적으로 H이며, m은 0또는 1이고, X 및 Y는 각각 서로 독집적으로, O, S, CO―O, O―CO, O―CO―O 또는 단일결합이며, X 라티칼은 양자택일적으로 1.4―페닐렌 또는 트랜스―1.4―사이클로헥실렌이고, Y라디칼은 양자택일적으로 트랜스로―1.4―사이클로헥실렌이며, Ph는 1.4―페닐렌이고, Ph 라디칼들중의 하나 또는 둘은 양자 택일적으로 2― 또는 3― 플루오로―1.4―페닐렌이며, 단, (a) X가 1.4―페닐렌이고 m이 1인 경우, Ph 라디칼들중의 하나 또는 둘은 2― eh는 3―플루오로―1.4―페닐렌이고, (b) X가 트렌스―1.4―사이클로헥실렌인 경우, m이 0이고 Ph 라디칼들중의 하나 또는 둘은 2― 또는 3―플루오로 ―1.4 ―페닐렌이다.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 하기 일반식 (Ⅱ)를 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
    상기식에서, R3및 R2는 제1항에 기재한 의미를 가지며, X는 O 또는 단일 결합이고, Ph 라디칼들중의 하나는 2― 또는 3― 플루오로― 1.4― 페닐렌 이고 나머지 하나는 1.4―페닐렌이다.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 하기 일반식 (Ⅰla)를 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
    상기식에서, R1및 R2는 제1항에 기재한 의미를 갖는다.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 하기 일반식(Ⅰ′)를 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 하기 일반식(Ⅰ″)를 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 하기 일반식(Ⅰ″′)를 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
  7. 제1항 내지 제6항중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
    -Ph-Ph-가-또는임을 특징으로 하는 비페닐릴에탄.
  8. 제1항에 따르는 일반식(Ⅰ)의 화합물의 액정상 성분으로서의 용도.
  9. 하나 이상의 일반식(Ⅰ)의 화합물을 함유함을 특징으로 하는, 두가지 이상의 액정 성분을 갖는 액정상.
  10. 제9항에 따르는 액정상을 함유함을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 요소.
