전형적으로, 네트워크 상에서 컨텐트를 탐색할 때, 웹크롤러나 로봇과 같은 에이전트(agent)는 에이전트가 만나는 각 웹 링크를 따라서 준-임의적 형태로(in aquasi-random fashion) 네트워크를 크롤(탐색)한다. 크롤 동작은 그러나 네트워크로부터 메타데이터와 같은 설명 데이터를 모으는 하나의 예시적인 예이다. 이러한 유형의 준-임의적 탐색은 종종 탐색될 굉장히 많은 불필요한 데이터를 야기한다. 본 발명자는 탐색 동작이 불필요한 컨텐트를 탐색하는 것을 피하도록 제한되는 기법을 발견하였다. 간단히 말하면, 처음에 웹사이트(또는 파일 디렉토리와 같은 컨텐트의 임의의 위치)를 만날 때, 상세한 탐색이 수행되며, 사이트맵이 생성된다. 또한, 웹사이트의 URL이 만나게된 웹사이트의 디렉토리에 추가된다. 그 다음에 웹사이트를 만날 때, 에이전트는 단지 관련된 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위해{집중 크롤(focused crawl)이라고 지칭됨} 디렉토리와 각 사이트맵을 사용한다. 또한 인터넷의 다이내믹한 속성 때문에, 웹사이트는 사이트맵과 디렉토리를 업데이트하기 위해 또 다른 상세한 탐색/크롤을 수행하도록 때때로 재방문된다. 사이트맵은 구조화된 데이터 저장 포맷을 포함하며, 여기서 웹사이트(또는 파일 디렉토리)의 컨텐트가 레벨(또한 레이어로 지칭됨)들로 구성된다.

사이트맵(300)의 포맷은 예시적인 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 사이트맵은 다섯 개의 레벨보다 많거나 적은 레벨을 포함할 수 있다. 본 발명의 일실시예에서, 처음에 만나게된 각 웹사이트는 철저하게 탐색(예컨대, 크롤)되고, 이에 대응하여 생성된 사이트맵은 그 웹사이트에 포함된 모든 엔터티(예컨대, 객체, 웹페이지, 외부 웹사이트, 메타데이터, 텍스트)를 포함하는데 필요한 만큼의 많은 레벨을 포함한다. 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에서, 사이트맵에서의 레벨의 개수는 사전에 결정된 임계치를 초과하지 않도록 세팅된다. 예컨대, 하나의 사이트맵에서의 레벨의 개수는 세 개를 초과하지 않도록 세팅될 수 있다. 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에서, 사이트맵에서의 레벨이 개수는 발견적으로(heuristically) 결정된다. 예컨대, 특정한 웹사이트가 처음 만나게되자마자 철저하게 탐색될 수 있으며, 여섯 개의 레벨의 스트리밍 미디어 및/또는 멀티미디어(즉, 타깃 컨텐트)에 관련된 정보를 포함함이 결정된다. 상기 웹사이트는 이후에 추가적인 상세한 탐색을 수행하기 위해 재방문될 수 있다. 이러한 발견적 기법을 통해, 스트리밍 미디어 및/또는 멀티미디어 컨텐트가 여섯 개의 레벨을 포함하는 사이트맵에 일관되게(consistently) 포함됨이 결정될 수 있다. 따라서, 이 예의 사이트맵을 위한 레벨의 개수는 여섯 개로 세팅된다.
웹사이트를 처음 만나게 되면, 사이트맵이 생성되며, 만나게된 웹사이트에 관련된 정보 및 이에 대응하는 사이트맵이 데이터베이스에 저장된다. 도 4는 본 발명의 예시적인 실시예에 따른 데이터베이스(400)에 저장된 정보의 예시이다. 타깃 컨텐트를 위한 탐색 방법 동안에, 여러 웹사이트를 만나게 된다. 처음에 웹사이트를 만나게될 때, 사이트맵이 이렇게 만난 웹사이트에 대해서 생성된다. 각 사이트맵{예컨대, 사이트맵(414 및 416)}은 데이터베이스(400)에 저장된다. 웹사이트를 이전에 만났었는지를 결정하기 위해, 사이트맵이 상기 웹사이트를 위한 데이터베이스에 존재함을 지시하여, 각 만났던 웹사이트가 만났던 웹사이트의 디렉토리(412)와 비교된다. 만났던 웹사이트의 디렉토리(412)는, 사이트맵이 생성되어진 각 만났던 웹사이트의 URL과 각 웹사이트의 컨텐트에 관련된 정보를 포함한다. 만났던 웹사이트의 디렉토리(412)는 재구성 가능하고, 새로운 사이트맵이 생성되고/거나 삭제됨에 따라 계속해서 업데이트된다.
본 발명에 따라, 웹사이트는 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 탐색된다. 타깃 컨텐트는탐색되는 특정한 용어와 이 용어에 관련된 정보를 포함한다. 데이터베이스는 웹사이트 탐색의 결과를 사용하여 형성된다. 이들 데이터베이스를 형성하기 위해, 웹사이트는 임의적으로 탐색되지 않는다, 즉 오히려 집중 탐색 방법이 수행된다. 히스토리컬(Historical) 데이터(예컨대, 얼마나 자주 사이트는 방문되었는지, 얼마나 많은 사용자가 사이트를 방문하였는지) 및 메타데이터가 탐색을 돕기 위해 사용된다. 더나아가, 만약 웹사이트가 이전에 만났다면 그리고 사이트맵이 이 웹사이트를 위해 존재한다면, 웹사이트는 철저하게 탐색되지 않는다, 즉 집중 탐색 방법이 수행된다. 집중 탐색(또한 집중 크롤로 지칭됨) 방법은 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 포함함이 이미 결정되어진 사이트맵의 엔터티 및/또는 웹사이트만 탐색하는 단계를 포함한다. 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 엔터티(418)와 같은 빗금쳐진 엔터티는 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 포함하는 엔터티를 나타낸다. 엔터티(420)와 같은 빗금쳐지지 않은 엔터티는 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 포함하지 않는 엔터티를 나타낸다. 또한, 사이트맵(422 및 424)은 사이트맵(414 및 416)이 포함하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많은 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 포함한다. 따라서, 집중 탐색 동안에, 본 발명에 따른 시스템은 사이트맵(예컨대, 422 및 424)의 빗금쳐진 엔터티(예컨대, 418)를 탐색한다.

본 발명의 또 다른 예시적인 실시예에서, 시스템(100)은 데이터베이스(400)를 업데이트하기 위해 이전에 만났던 웹사이트의 후속적인 광범위한 탐색{재크롤(recrawl)로 지칭됨}을 수행한다{예컨대, 웹사이트의 각 사이트맵을 업데이트하고, 만났던 사이트의 디렉토리(412)를 업데이트하며, 사이트맵을 삭제하고, 디렉토리(412)로부터 URL을 삭제한다}. 시스템은 얼마나 자주 재크롤을 수행할 것인지를 결정하기 위해 보조 정보를 사용한다. 얼마나 자주 및 언제 재크롤이 수행될 것인지는 통계적으로, 발견적으로 및/또는 사용자의 입력에 의해 결정될 수 있다.

Claims (32)

  1. 타깃 컨텐트(target content)를 위해 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위한 방법으로서,
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위해 구조화된 데이터 저장소(structured data store)의 선택된 레벨을 결정하는 단계로서, 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 포함하는, 결정 단계와;
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 상기 선택된 레벨을 탐색하는 단계를,
    포함하는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 타깃 컨텐트는 멀티미디어, 스트리밍 미디어, 멀티미디어 메타데이터 및 스트리밍 미디어 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 생성하는 단계를 더 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  4. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 업데이트하기 위해 시간 간격을 결정하는 단계를 더 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  5. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 적어도 하나의 네트워크 사이트를 탐색하는 단계와;
    각 새롭게 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위해 각 사이트맵을 생성하는 단계를 더 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  6. 제 5항에 있어서, 각 사이트맵은 적어도 하나의 레벨을 포함하며, 각 레벨은 링크, 객체 및 공통 컨텐트에 관련된 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  7. 제 5항에 있어서, 상기 데이터 저장소는 각 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위한 각 사이트맵과 만났던 네트워크 사이트의 디렉토리를 포함하는, 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  8. 제 5항에 있어서, 마주친 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트인지를 결정하는 단계와;
    만약 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트라면, 각 사이트맵의 선택된 레벨을 탐색하는 단계와;
    만약 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 아니라면, 상기 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 그 네트워크 사이트를 철저하게(exhaustively) 탐색하고각 사이트맵을 생성하는 단계를,
    더 포함하는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트 탐색 방법.
  9. 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위한 컴퓨터 시스템으로서,
    상기 컴퓨터 시스템은 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터를 포함하며, 상기 시스템의 모든 컴퓨터는 서로 통신 가능하게 연결되며, 여기서 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터 각각은 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터 각자 및 모두 사이에 통신을 허용하기 위해 각각에 저장되는 적어도 하나의 프로그램을 포함하며, 상기 적어도 하나의 프로그램 각각은, 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터가 다음의 단계, 즉
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위해(516) 구조화된 데이터 저장소의 선택된 레벨을 결정하는 단계로서, 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 포함하는, 결정 단계와;
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 상기 선택된 레벨을 탐색하는 단계를,
    수행하도록 서로 연결되어 동작하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  10. 제 9항에 있어서, 상기 타깃 컨텐트는 멀티미디어, 스트리밍 미디어, 멀티미디어 메타데이터, 및 스트리밍 미디어 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  11. 제 9항에 있어서, 서로 연결되어 동작하는 상기 적어도 하나의 프로그램 각각은 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터가 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 생성하는 단계를 더 수행하게 하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  12. 제 9항에 있어서, 서로 연결되어 동작하는 상기 적어도 하나의 프로그램 각각은 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터가 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 업데이트하기 위해 시간 간격을 결정하는 단계를 더 수행하게 하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  13. 제 9항에 있어서, 서로 연결되어 동작하는 상기 적어도 하나의 프로그램 각각은 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터가 다음의 단계, 즉
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 적어도 하나의 네트워크 사이트를 탐색하는 단계(522)와;
    각 새롭게 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위해 각 사이트맵을 생성하는 단계(524)를,
    더 수행하게 하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  14. 제 13항에 있어서, 각 사이트맵은 적어도 하나의 레벨을 포함하며, 각 레벨은 링크, 객체 및 공통 컨텐트에 관련된 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  15. 제 13항에 있어서, 상기 데이터 저장소는 각각의 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위한 각 사이트맵과 만났던 네트워크 사이트의 디렉토리를 포함하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  16. 제 13항에 있어서, 서로 연결되어 동작하는 상기 적어도 하나의 프로그램 각각은 상기 적어도 하나의 컴퓨터가 다음의 단계, 즉
    만났던 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트인지를 결정하는 단계와;
    만약 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트라면, 각 사이트맵의 선택된 레벨을 탐색하는 단계와;
    만약 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 아니라면, 상기 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 이러한 네트워크 사이트를 철저하게 탐색하여 각 사이트맵을 생성하는 단계를,
    더 수행하게 하는, 컴퓨터 시스템.
  17. 프로세서가 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 탐색하게 하기 위해 그 내부에 프로그램을 내장시킨 프로그램 판독 가능 매체로서,
    상기 프로세서가 상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위해 구조화된 데이터 저장소의 선택된 레벨을 결정하게 하기 위한 수단으로서, 상기 구조화된데이터 저장소는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 포함하는, 결정 수단과;
    상기 프로세서가 상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 상기 선택된 레벨을 탐색하게 하기 위한 수단을,
    포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  18. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 타깃 컨텐트는, 멀티미디어, 스트리밍 미디어, 멀티미디어 메타데이터 및 스트리밍 미디어 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  19. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 프로그램 판독 가능 매체는 상기 프로세서가 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 생성하게 하기 위한 수단을 더 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  20. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 프로그램 판독 가능 매체는 상기 프로세서가 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소를 업데이트하기 위해 시간 간격을 결정하게 하기 위한 수단을 더 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  21. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 프로그램 판독 가능 매체는,
    상기 프로세서가 상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 적어도 하나의 네트워크 사이트를 탐색하게 하기 위한 수단과;
    상기 프로세서가 각 새롭게 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위해 각 사이트맵을 생성하게 하기 위한 수단을,
    더 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  22. 제 21항에 있어서, 각 사이트맵은 적어도 하나의 레벨을 포함하며, 각 레벨은 링크, 객체 및 공통 컨텐트에 관련된 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  23. 제 21항에 있어서, 상기 데이터 저장소는 각 만났던 네트워크 사이트를 위한 각 사이트맵 및 만났던 네트워크 사이트의 디렉토리를 포함하는, 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.

    만약 네트워크 사이트가 이전에 만났던 네트워크 사이트가 아니라면, 상기 프로세서가 상기 타깃 컨텐트를 위해 이러한 네트워크 사이트를 철저하게 탐색하게 하여 각 사이트맵을 생성하기 위한 수단을,
    더 포함하는 프로그램 판독 가능 매체.
  25. 반송파에 포함된 데이터 신호로서,
    타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 탐색하기 위해 구조화된 데이터 저장소의 선택된 레벨을 결정하기 위한 선택 레벨 결정 코드 세그먼트로서, 상기 구조화된 데이터 저장소는 네트워크 기반 컨텐트를 포함하는 선택 레벨 결정 코드 세그먼트와;
    상기 타깃 컨텐트에 관련된 컨텐트를 위해 상기 선택된 레벨을 탐색하기 위한 선택 레벨 탐색 코드 세그먼트를,
    포함하는 반송파 포함 데이터 신호.
  26. 제 25항에 있어서, 상기 타깃 컨텐트는 멀티미디어, 스트리밍 미디어, 멀티미디어 메타데이터 및 스트리밍 미디어 메타데이터 중 적어도 하나를 포함하는, 반송파 포함 데이터 신호.
